Speculation: 2025 NHL Trade Rumors & Discussion

I know Dumba is not good but Smith is clearly even worse. Not sure anyone will look good playing next to him . Other teams already played him as forward for the same reason we did it s a couple of times this year. He can only to very limited damage as 4th line grinder compared to the problems he causes as #6 defenseman
Both of them should not be in the NHL.

Tom said he doesn't expect us to do much at the deadline, basically confirms we're rolling with Dumba in the lineup. f***ing Stupid

yeah don’t get excited at the TDL boys. He kinda let it slip he doesn’t expect them to do much.

Mentioned anyone they acquire they’ve typically been looking at for a long time.

The one year where LTIR breaks our way.
Where we have the best forward core we could possible hope to have.
and we're gonna roll with this d-core. Just Sad

This years TDL seems like it won't have many trades this year. Doesn't appear to be many players available with a lot of the teams still fighting for a playoff spot.

I know lots will be upset if Nill doesn't make another move, but we can at least be thankful he did acquire Grandaddy and Ceci

As soon as Miro comes back, Dumba will be scratched thankfully

Went as expected - was pretty boring.. I thought TG would show a bit more character lmao. Food for thought but if TG comes out and says he expects the Stars to make a splash doesn't that just make the price go up?

For me it was when he mentioned he won’t even really be around the team for TDL day when he usually is and then said he doesn’t expect much anyway.

the no assholes thing was funny

It's really the salary cap working as designed. When Nill went for quantity over quality in UFA, I think this problem was set in stone. Again, while only 1 of 3 made it (I'm sure Nill thought 2 of 3 would be decent) given prices and availability in UFA, the strategy, like acquiring draft picks to raise your chances, wasn't entirely unreasonable.

I definitely believe Gaglardi when he says we won't do much.

I also know Nill will still want to try and get another dman. He may not make a big splash, he may not move Dumba, but he can't help himself when it comes to defensive depth (and last year not having it actually became an issue).

Also worth noting that Seravalli this morning had Tampa listed as the most aggressive team this deadline

Them acquiring Bjorkstrand and Gourde confirms that. He had the Stars ranked 10th out of 17 teams in terms of aggressiveness - which aligns with Gaglardi's comments

Worth noting Bjorkstrand is not a rental.

Seems like the price will be fair

Let's see the retention/rest of the deal

Not sure I buy what Tommy G is putting out there. But even if Stars don't do anything, this team is pretty damn good once fully healthy, and if they truly believe both Miro and Segs won't miss playoff games (or at minimum, a handful) then I'm fine with it.

It's not if they miss PO games or not, it's at what % do they return.

Like Stone came back for game 1 last year, but he wasn't 100%, which worked out in our favor. he made several uncharacteristic mistakes throughout that series, and it still went 7 games.

It Is better to have 1% Miro than 100% Dumba.
But you can't have Harley being the only healthy guy (hopefully healthy) with any ability to move the puck consistently.

the drop off from him to Lindell is quite large, it's even larger from Lindell to whatever #6 talent we have masquerading as a #4.

Tamps just goes all in and says "F IT! Draft picks be damned"!
When you've already won two Cups with this aging core whose days are numbered, there's no reason to care about the future. Do everything you can to squeeze one more run out of them because you know your team is going to be shit in three seasons either way when a number of their big pieces start retiring or being unable to contribute.

Going all in when you've already done it makes a lot of sense. We saw the Penguins do this for several recent seasons with zero reward for the effort other than showing Crosby they're trying.
