I made a mistake and listened to a Daily Faceoff podcast with Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor.

Seravalli was basically repeating what Sean Shapiro wrote about Seth Jones and the Stars not having enough space for him down the road. I generally agree with this take.

Anyway - the podcast itself was so bad to the point where I couldn't turn it off because of how these guys were talking to each other. I feel like the more Seravalli puts himself out there, the less I tend to respect his opinion.

Jones only works with massive retention, which no one (rightfully) will do.

I don't want to sound like I'm advocating for a Jones trade, but
the only real issue is next season, as far as figuring out the cap anyway and that's only an issue depending on what they do with Benn and Duchene and if Johnston does a long term high dollar deal. which he would be better off waiting 2yrs when the cap is 100m+ to do. (that's assuming the 25% retention max is true)

Another tidbit:

Isles aren't moving Dobson. It was out there but he's a future for their d-core.

He's off the table for any team right now.
Of course they don't want to trade him, but they do still have to agree on a contract. That's the rub, but at the same time, RFAs don't generally get traded before contract negotiations fully break down. So he may not be an option now but could be at the end of summer if the Isles have suddenly decided to be cheap after overpaying depth vets for years.

My comment was more for the deadline but you are absolutely correct.
