Lol at people getting mad for Marchand to FLA. Like that has nothing to do with us. Rat-face wasnt coming here even if we offered Boston Leonard+Hutson+Cristall+all our draft picks. give it a rest.

If we get far enough to worry about Tampa or Panthers, thats great. Ill worry about them then. Now ill just enjoy cruising at first place of our conference while Metro just got weaker, and seeing our prospect pool dominating pretty much every junior-level there is.

if people paid attention, the marchand deal condition is games played aka he isnt even healthy right now

Guess it depends who teams were asking for.
And who the Caps were asking for. I’m ok giving to get but the get better be worth it. I’m not trading our first and Ilya Protas for Scott Laughton.

There are really no deals out there other than Marchand and maybe one or two others that made me go, “wish the Caps did that.”

Agreed. Though I'm betting Marchand picked his spot from among the suitors. Have to think Boston would do that for him.

A lot of dumb trades were made. Remember, Caps made their major trades this past offseason, and it's paid off very well. Excluding the Jets, most teams are 10+ points behind the Caps, so those other teams made a bunch of trades to fill holes the Caps didn't have. And the majority of the time, these trades don't guarantee winning the Cup that much more! With ~ 20 games left in the season, there isn't a lot of time to develop chemistry depending on how many trades some teams made that are playoff bound.

Yeah, and even if they weren't 100% magnanimous about it, he had the power to help them narrow it down. Being real, only contenders were in the market for him to begin with, and he had a right to an 8-team NT list. Takes half the board off the table if need be.

I'm sure they accommodated him as we expect, just saying there's more than a couple ways/reasons the Caps may have been excluded from the process. The people crowing, "We should have given them that deal!!!" can hush up, in other words. ;)

a 2028 1st rounder is a big price for what could end up being just 2 games on the panthers
2 games in a 7 game 1st round lost = 25% games played.

Panthers 2028 1st could be huge if not protected. Im not sure many people would be happy trading our 2028 unprotected 1st for a hurt player on a rental contract.

I thought about this too. FLA in particular has a LOT of new personalities to incorporate. They're a very well-coached team, so maybe it works out fine, but it could also go really wrong.

Caps have drafted so good the past couple of years would rather have kept that 2nd second rounder even in a weaker draft. That said their prospect pool gives them bottom two line draft rather than relying on an AHL player.

Very stoked they didn't give up their high-end prospects. Not all will pan out but it's a year-to-year thing and right now it looks great.

And let’s see what actually comes from this acquisition, and into the playoffs.

You are probably correct — but maybe Beauvillier can change that conclusion

Bros we are a good team. It’s time for even our own fans to realize that.

But but but.. Mikko Rantanen didnt sign with us which obviously means we have a very bad team! And Rat Marchand would have costed only a 2nd so what a fumble to not just do the deal for 2nd+7th and take the Rat here. Because thats how it works.

;)

”I like our team”. And i like Metro didnt just get worse for this year, but as it looks like we will be in the middle of rebuilding div/conf next year with Pens and Bruins logging in the rebuilders category to side with the Flyers there, and Islanders doing their Islanders thing of middling the s*** out. And CBJ, Wings and Habs not looking ready yet. The field is open for us next year too, and we’ll have all the ammunition left if it makes more sense to spend then.

I'm kinda disappointed like many about our lack of big trades at the deadline, but at the same time, I like the quotes from GMCP. We would have all been irate if one of our good prospects got traded for somebody we didn't approve of.

Many around here wanted us to stand pat, and the prices dictated that that is pretty much what we did.

Right now we should make the ECF given how our opposition is getting worse. All the possible opponents are rubbish up to that point. Then we take a shot at Florida, Tampa or whoever. It's at this point, we need LT and lots of others to get hot.

Q1. How much space do we actually need to fit Lenny in anyway? Can't be much.
Q2. How high do you reckon we can get if we trade up with our 1st and Boston's 2nd. Maybe 20 ish? I'd be looking to draft the best C we can. And then grab a couple of goalies with later picks.

I'm ok with our deadline. Go Caps.

Rantanen was deciding on his home for the next 8 years, I'm sorry but that stuff does not matter if you're a rental.

Not to mention there was apparently quite a bit of bad blood between the two teams last season including multiple injuries on the Bruins side against FLA.

So you're telling me if your boss says "You need to go live in a hotel room and work in some city you hate for the next 3-4 months" you'd be fine with it?

Of course veterans who are rentals and have leverage care about such things.

Remember money is just a number on a piece of paper/screen to these guys now.

As for this topic in general and to nobody in particular, I wondered if this move precluded some other bigger deal but it didn't. That's fine because of the Leonard possibility, and because a month or so ago I asked all the tradeniks what exactly was the big flaw in this roster.

The main answer was 3rd line and that seems to be what we've addressed here. NOT top 6 forward which is the SHINY NEW TOY everyone wants every TDL like it's f***ing Xmas.

The only way such moves are validated or proven wrong is cup or bust, in the minds of some. But smart analysis looks at whether something was the right decision at THAT time, not later.

I don't think this club has made a serious FO misstep in a while so right now it's all on the players and coaches, and from what I've seen this is a CULTURE AND CHEMISTRY team that runs on system and teamwork, not an all-star roster trying to co-exist while inevitably underperforming due to egos.

Which would you rather have?

I have a feeling July 1 is going to be a shitshow this year. I hope we have signed all our FA's we want to keep well in advance.

Chychrun contract i do think is a matter of time really. I don't think there is a scenario where they extend Lindgren without knowing the framework for Chychrun extension.

First quote bugs me a little…..of course they want good prospects. You have to give to get.

Very protect your nut’ish.

Well when your nuts are big and beautiful and fast and produce a ton, then you SHOULD protect them at most any cost. When your nuts are broken and small and don't produce enough to make a difference, then you look to swap them out for something that helps you right now.

:D

I'll take "Things Said By Doctors Who Finished Last In Their Class" for $800, Alex.
