Sounds like Mikko is negotiating an extension with Dallas. Expect the trade and extension announcement today.

Shame he won't make it to free agency. One less guy we could potentially go after in the summer.

Sounds like the deal will go through if Rantanen signs an extension, which is being worked on.

So there goes Plan A for Davidson, now he’s gonna have to show his mettle.

Didn’t have much faith that Rants would sign an extension tbf, kinda odd he would spurn Carolina but not Florida or Dallas.

Wonder if Aho doesn’t like him for life now lol
I'm guessing if he wasn't going to play in Colorado, he wanted to at least go to a contender in a state with no income tax.

Seems he really did just care about the money.

AVS got Brock Nelson ...the cost was a 1st +a 3rd and Callum Ritchie .. so essentially 2 firsts and 3rd.

Donato will not being that haul ..but a 1st and a 3rd or a top prospect who was a recent 1st and a 3rd is fair return but team getting hom may think of an extention not just a rental..

Parascak was #17 in the last draft, Protas is at 102 pts in the OHL and still 18, Lapierre I agree is resembling Reichel at this point.

I wonder if you could add a LHD (whichever of Kaiser/Allan/EDM our pro scouts think will be odd man out) to Donato and grab Lambert and a pick of some sort to balance things (maybe a 1st, but certainly a 2nd+)?

Yeah agreed about Parascak etc. I think realistically we can only target those prospects that were drafted two+ years ago, the fresh ones are too fresh.

Kaiser + Donato for Lamber and a 2nd/3rd?
That would be an interesting deal.

No to the other too, especially Del Mastro.

I think it’s hilarious that people have acted like not paying state taxes was “not an advantage” worth talking about
When Seattle is good I think they’ll be able to use that advantage as well since Washington has no state income tax

I would like the Lambert for Kaiser/Donato idea more if instead of a 2nd the add was flipping a 2nd ( preferably one other than ours) for their 1st.

The Rantanen trade might happen but if I'm him or his agent, I don't sign any extension anywhere. The upside of the open market is way brighter than the downside risk of a catastrophic injury with only ~20 games left and the playoffs.

1 step forward (moving Jones for actual value) and 1 step back....why overpay for a dime a dozen bottom 6 on a get paid bender....ugggh
All depends on the number he signs for. If its 3 years for 3m than its fine. Hawks need players eventually and while Donato is obviously overperforming, he is playing good and we cant just keep giving these players away for a 47th pick in a weak draft.

Gotta be a ploy, these “negotiations”. KD isn’t dumb I can’t imagine he actually wants to resign Donato. But, if they aren’t being offered a first round pick yet Donato must not be passing the sniff test around the league. Which is surprising given his 5v5 production.

Could be posturing by KD

But aren’t we going to have trouble hitting the cap floor next year?

Would it be that bad to keep him for a handful of years? When we get more pieces you put him where he belongs on the 3rd/4th line. Works hard, decent speed, and Bedard told us they are close with each other.

There’s this too. I wouldn’t hate extending him as long as you’re not paying him to be the player he’s been this year but I have a feeling they’ll get a big offer
