GDT: 2025 NHL Trade Deadline - March 7

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
He's about to be 29 and he's having the best season of his career -- one that he's likely not ever going to replicate given the opportunity for premium icetime he's gotten in CHI. He should 100% be looking for term. This is his best (and last?) shot at a long term deal.

Yep, and I hope he gets it. He seems like a good teammate and he works his ass off.

While I can’t stand him on Bedard’s line I hope nothing for the best for the guy…..

…… and a first round pick for us.

Thanks for the trade value Donato, but you’re not good enough to justify force feeding you like that.

Good luck with coming back down to earth on a better team.

Donato for a 1st would have not been on my bingo card coming into this season. Even if we add a 2nd to him to get there, that would be a pleasant twist.

If all you can get is a 4th/5th for Reichel, I hang onto him and see if something clicks next season otherwise just ride him to the finish line. A 4th or 5th is long odds to ever even play in the NHL.

Moving Mrazek would have to be taking back a bad F deal back to happen now (he has been that bad the last few months). I wish Goodrow only had 1 more season left as San Jose could use a backup now and next year and cap is no issue there. I do wonder is something bigger could be worked with the Sharks as they are deep in F prospects and thin on D with us the opposite. Pick whichever of Kaiser/EDM/Allan you think will be the odd man out in the long run and see if you can grab one of Bystedt/Chernyshov/Graf/Haltmen/Lund

I hope I'm wrong but I wouldn't be shocked if Donato goes for less than a first. Now that Boeser, Rantanen, and Nelson are on the market, how many teams are left that would have a first to give for Donato?

Unless Chicago packages Donato with a second, I don't see him fetching a 1st. That would be some serious mismanagement, IMO.

Of the teams that are reported to be interested:

Columbus has two (their own and Minnesota's)
Washington
Winnipeg
Ottawa technically has theirs though they will probably give it up rather than giving up next year's

And of course there are always future picks.

Donato's salary makes him extremely easy to work into a team with a tight cap situation compared to those other guys (Washington, for example, has about 3.6m in cap space at the moment, they would need significant retention on those other guys you mentioned to make it work).

This...plus you can trade for a F prospect that is the equivalent value of a first.

Assuming Ottawa will forfeit their '25 1st, you could offer them a 2nd (or hell both the '25 Dallas 2nd and '26 Toronto) with Donato. I would actually prefer a prospect like Halliday as someone not as far off as a draft pick to potentially helping in the NHL.

I wonder if the Donato trade goes down today, or if it'll be down to the wire

Kyle can drag it out as long as he needs until teams get more desperate

Are you suggesting offering Donato and a 2nd round pick for Halladay?
