Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

6'2 LD Sascha Boumedienne is gonna be a riser. Could be a find in the 2nd round, but tankathon has him going 27th overall. He's got 12 points in four WJC-18 games, which is currently 2nd on team Sweden and at the WJC-18 games. And he's already got a season in the NCAA. Crazy.

He’s opening some eyes for sure but these preliminary round games are one-sided slaughters for the most part so I’ll wait to the medal games to really assess where he is. That said, he came into the year viewed as a possible top 10 talent so...

I dunno about top-10. Boumedienne was listed at #18 for NA skaters on CSB's Mid-term ranking and stayed that way for their Final ranking. That means he's around a 2nd round talent when you include European skaters as well as a goalie or two. When I say rising, I mean up higher into the 2nd round or late first, which tankathon has already mocked him at 27th overall.

Sascha's good showing at the WJC-18 shows his growth from playing in the NCAA in his D+0 season. NHL teams would see that as a possibility him reaching the NHL level sooner. The max amount of years left to wait is three years. I would be very interested in seeing what he does in his D+1 season.

As of now, my tiers for the top of the 1st round are:

1 - Schaefer

2 - Hagens, Misa

3 - Desnoyers, Martone, Frondell, Eklund, Mrtka, McQueen

4 - O'Brien, Smith, Aitcheson, Bear

Edit: fat thumbed it and posted too early
Would prob move hagens down to 3 (and make it tier 2)

And misa in a 1a/1b scenario with Schaefer

I want Chicago to win so badly. The move up from 2 to 1 would be 100% worth them not being eligible to win the McKenna and Dupont lotteries.
They definitely wouldn't be able to move up again if they win this lottery, but what if they finish dead last next year? Would they just automatically get the #3 pick or something?

No. "Winning" is moving up. Getting the pick in your lottery spot is not "winning" for those purposes. For example. The Ducks did "win" the second pick the 2023 draft in the sense that their lottery balls came up, but because they moved down (from 1 to 2), it doesn't count as a "win".

If they finish last they technically can still get the #1 pick.
They only count "winning" the lottery as moving up.

The Ducks are a lock for the first overall pick! It only took me two attempts on Tank-a-thon. The lottery gods have spoken! Ha!

The more I look into this draft the more Im almost expecting them to trade the first. If not for proven talent, I could see them moving #8 for a couple later firsts.
I could see for a proven talent, but this might be the worst draft to trade down for a couple mid 1sts.

There are a lot of talent evaluators that have said this is the draft where after like 15 the gap between that and a guy you will see at 60 is minimal. AND that tier of guys is the level you would normally see in the late 2nd/3rd round in a typical year. It's a weak draft and a good year to not be loaded with 2nds.

What if Montreal did something like #16 + #17 + #41 + #49 for #8 ?
I doubt they would, and even still I would rather take the lower "value" side of the deal that likely has the best chance at getting a 1st line player.
