Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

Here is the top 15:

They have consistently been high on Smith and low on Frondell all season.

IMO McQueen is going to drop right into that sweet spot that is where the Ducks will be picking (unless they win the lottery). We'll see if his upside is too irresistible for them to pass on him. If the medicals turn out ok I think they'll probably take him as the highest upside player available at their draft spot.

I don't know if O'Brien will be there either, honestly. At least at 9, I mean.
I think ur right, I looked at draft order again and I can't see Pittsburgh passing on O'Brien.
Doesn't seem like they'd start their rebuild with McQueen or Mrtka.
I also wonder if O'Brien goes sooner if Buffalo passes on Eklund for O'Brien.

For the 2nd round I kind of hope they either pick one of the RDs that fell out of the first or a Goalie.
I think in a weaker draft goalies might be worth drafting in the 2nd.

Warming up more and more to O'Brien.
Big issue with O'Brien is he gets most of his points on the PP and he sort of has that Zegras offensive mindset and defensive lapses. Unfortunately I see Cronin ruin him just like Z if we draft him. Because of this I dont think we take O'Brien

Interesting list.

Smith is very high compared to others who have dropped him well out of the top 10. Would be great if someone takes him before us.

Bear is very good. He will be this drafts small guy who takes off when he hits NHL level. The big concern is his achilles injury when he was cut by a skate. Similar to what happened to Krebs. Hopefully he recovers fully but we wont know until after the draft.

McQueen is going to get selected top 5 if his medicals come back ok. I really hope we get a chance to select him and go for that home run pick. This is the year to either trade our pick or go for a big swing.

Lots of talk about Desnoyers being scouted by top drafting teams so he likely goes earlier than expected too. Probably a very small chance he is there at 9 for us.

The Ducks getting a point eliminates us from passing Buffalo. It's 8 or 9 depending on whether we get the extra.

EDIT: They don't. Pittsburgh can drop us to 8 if they beat Washington tomorrow.

Desnoyers won't make it past all 3 of Boston/Flyers/Penguins imo. Boston may prefer him over Frondell and see a young Bergeron in him who knows. Flyers had Cutter as their next upcoming Center so picking Desnoyers would help them a lot. Pittsburgh needs any top6 Center prospect for when Crosby/Malkin retire.

Ducks won't get a great player out of this draft but they should get someone who can play in the middle of the lineup...2nd line potential at forward and 2nd pairing on D (if Mrtka). McQueen is the HR pick if healthy and I don't think teams picking ahead of the Ducks can risk taking him.

The prospect who might still be there at 9 could be RD Mrtka, right-shot C O'Brien, and the phenom with back issues, right-shot McQueen. I'm totally hyped about that! If we move up to 8, then there's a small possibility that Eklund could be available if people fall in love with size so that 6'6 Mrtka and 6'2 O'Brien are drafted ahead of 5'11 Eklund.

Mrtka's ppg rate, 0.81, ranks best in the WHL for first time, eligible draft defensemen (I used under the age of 19 on the EP preference). Mrtka barely beat Jackson Smith. Underage are Dupont (15 years old) and Lin (16 years old until April 18th). Overager is Pickford, who just turned 19 years old on April 2nd. Smith was our 3rd round pick from last year's draft.

I wonder if there is a way to convince Mrtka to play in college for a year to develop his defense as well as add bulk to his frame. He might be too good for the WHL going into next season.

My list is as follows for prospects who could possibly be available in our range (yes, I understand some of them are very likely to be gone by the time we draft)

Frondell
Desnoyers
Martin
Eklund
O’Brein
Smith
Mrtka

I'll put it another way (although the results may be the same). IMO there is a consensus building on the top six (in no particular order):
Schaefer
Misa
Martone
Hagen
Frondell
Desnoyers

I don't think any of the guys above will be available at 8/9. The fun starts at 7 with the following grouping:
O'Brien
Mrtka
McQueen
Eklund
Smith
Martin
Lakovic (Madden dark horse pick...just b/c)

Barring a big surprise or trade, I would expect the Ducks to be picking from that 2nd category.

Mqueen Eklund or O'Brien and I'm happy.

I think there is a clear top 8 so of course we end up at 9 lol. The odds are that one of those top 8 fall to us though. Honestly after the top 2 (maybe 4) it could go in any order. Would anyone be shocked to see O'Brien go 5?

Desnoyers is the guy I hope drops to us, but I really can't see him making it past Philly who desperately need a center.

Who is in your top 8?

Here is my top 10. McQueen is separated just because the injuury concern. I think he is with that top 7 but teams could easily just not be interested in drafting him top 10 because of the injuries.

Schaefer
Misa
