Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

But Philly has also played 3 more games. Going by percentage (instead of points) the Ducks are closer to 14th place right now than they are to 8th. And as confident as this team is now, I can see them picking up 8-10 more points in the final ten games.

I'm not confident against stronger teams. I'll be ecstatic when we beat stronger teams. Against weaker teams, I expect the Ducks to win. We were fortunate that the NYR are stupid and let us back into the game after a 4-2 lead with like 6 minutes left in the game. Hey, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Our last 14 games, we won six games. Five of them belong to weak teams. Then the odd win is against Edm, but if you look at losing to Chicago (a weak team), then they cancel each other out. For our six wins, we have GF = 25, GA = 11, and GD = +14. We are looking at great goal tending in our wins against weaker teams. For our eight losses, the GF = 21, GA = 39, and GD = -18. The constant between the winning set and losing set is that our offense is relatively the same.

Here's an interesting scenario of "what if the Ducks win the lottery" mock draft.

Shaefer is 1 of the youngest players in the draft(for comparison he is 5 days older than zellweger was in his draft year)... 17 and already 6'2... Would be really hard to pass on him despite having pretty deep LHD.

I dont think Misa is really a guy that our scouts/PV would really be high on.... and id expect our conversation at #1 overall would be between

Shaefer
Martone

Martone is prob the best fit for the roster now.... but Shaefer is prob the best player in draft, i dont know that you can leave him on the board.

Misa and Schaefer are on another level then Martone. I would be pretty pissed if they took him at one instead of trading down if they want him.

You posted a week ago that based on the schedule you thought the team could go 2-8-2 the rest of the way. Well, they've gotten 2 wins since then so do you now think they'll go 0-8-2 the rest of the way?

I said it's a possibility they'll go 2-8-2, but I also said I'd love to pull off more wins. The two wins I expected were against Bos and SJ. The OTL could come anywhere. It could have been the NYR last night.
The NYR gifted us a win. But that 2nd period against the Rangers was terrible hockey by the Ducks as they were down 1-3. Then it was 4-2 with six minutes left in the game. We were more lucky than good in that game as the Rangers choked in the last 6 minutes of the game, which I thoroughly enjoyed. In OT, we had more skill on the ice and it showed.
Woowhoo... we beat a weak team that was 3-6-1 in their previous 10 games before the game last night. We can be weak teams b/c we're the best of the worst. Some of our recent losses to stronger team were beat downs. See the orange highlights below.
  • Our recent losses
    • Mar 5: Ducks 2, Canucks 3
    • Mar 7: Blues 4, Ducks 3
    • Mar 11: Caps 7, Ducks 4
    • Mar 12: Ducks 2, Utah 3
    • Mar 16: Ducks 2, Blues 7
    • Mar 18: Ducks 3, Stars 4 OT
    • Mar 23: Ducks 2, 'Canes 5
  • Our recent wins
    • Mar 9: NYI 1, Ducks 4
    • Mar 14: Preds 1, Ducks 2
    • Mar 20: Ducks 4, Preds 1
    • Mar 26: Bos 2, Ducks 6
    • Mar 28: NYR 4, Ducks 5 OT
That's a bunch of bad teams we've beaten. That's a bunch of losses we've incurred against stronger competition. So, yeah, I can see us losing a lot of games in this stretch. Do I want the team to lose them? Hell no! Does the pattern show they have a high probability of losing against stronger competition recently? Hell yeah.

So you've written a lot to tell me I'm wrong about 9-14. What's your range?

So you've written a lot to tell me I'm wrong about 9-14. What's your range?

I didn't say you were wrong, but you did start this odd conversation to try to paint me wrong after the Rangers choked/Ducks comeback win. I don't comprehend your passive-aggressive comments to know who's right or wrong when we're both just guessing to help pass time by. Remember, you asked me if I still held onto my notions the Ducks can go 0-8-2. Where this "to tell me I'm wrong" rebuttal is cringy.

It's quite unfortunate that you couldn't accept the answer as to why I still hold onto my conclusion. My fandom wants more wins, but my pattern seeking mind is still seeing obvious flaws, which I did provide evidence in my previous post.

Evidences are the reason for the long post, unless you prefer bullshitting with no evidences for shorter responses. Remember, I didn't produce those results. The Ducks produced those results. Let's not ignore nor omit those results.

With our recent form we probably end up with pick 8 or 9 now.

These are our last games so its easy to see we only have one easy game. Its likely we only get 1-2 wins out of the remainder of the games but we could surprise.

Toronto
San Jose
Calgary
Vancouver
Edmonton
Calgary
LA
Colorado
Minnesota

Oh I'd be shocked if the top 2 aren't locked in on virtually every list. Misa has put himself on another level from Martone. He's a birth year younger and just put up the most points in the OHL for a draft eligible since Patrick Kane in 06/07. I think he's closer to Schaefer than to anyone else behind him. The playoffs could still give an opportunity for that to change though.

The comment about Misa being someone they wouldn't be high on, I just don't see a flaw in his game that would warrant this rhetoric. He's an elite talent who plays hard, really doesn't have a notable flaw.

Misa even got the better of Martone when they dropped the gloves

Still reading and pondering who I really would like to see taken from this class, but if the Ducks believe there is some strong defensive potential/2 way game to Mrtka it could create a comical D group four/five years from now with all of said players in their prime.

Lacombe-Mrtka
Mintyukov-Helleson
Solberg-Luneau
Zellweger

Plus stragglers like Moore, Hinds, etc.

I worry about Zells future with the team, if Solberg develops as the FO likely anticipates I think Zell is the odd man out due to what may be redundant skills and value.

As long as we can still get Brady Martin idc where we pick
Yeah, this is where I’m at after reading up more. His game translates better to the Pros than most players in this draft.

I think there’s a realistic chance we can snag him in the 8-12 range too(which is where we’ll be picking most likely)

What's the elevator pitch on Martin, goal scorer, I would guess, well rounded?
Combination of being strong in puck battles/along the boards, along with having a high hockey IQ from what I’ve seen.

Great shot too.

I would be pretty surprised if he wasn’t a solid 2nd line center for a while in the NHL

I'll have to do more reading on him. So far the guys on my radar, assuming no lottery luck, are McQueen, Mrtka, O'Brien, Bear and Eklund

Check out Lynden Lakovic too. He is in that group and is sort of a poor man's Senneke on the left wing.

There are going to be some decent options for us to pick from so it will be interesting to see what direction we go in

I've considered Lakovic at times, but I feel like he leaves me wanting a bit.

Based on my reading of Martin, I'd support that pick. Get a really good gritty 3rd line center behind Mac and Leo creates a matchup hell. This effect doubles if Gaucher becomes the shutdown C he was projected to be and gets a bit of goal scoring going in the NHL.

I'm not fond of selecting Martin with a top 10 pick. I'd prefer someone who projects higher than 3C and also someone with better tools to fall back on when they reach the NHL.

A 6'0 174lbs player who specialises in effort and physicality is going to struggle at NHL level when everyone matches the effort and physicality but also have greater size and skill.

IMO this is just not a great draft and there really aren't any legit top 6 players after the top 8 so you are hoping for the best once they are gone. Despite the size, it just seems that Martin is such a Pat Verbeek type player. Lakovic is a possibility as well since he does look like the LW version of a poor man's Sennecke. O'Brian is intriguing if the scouts think his game can translate. Those three would probably be my top choices if all of the top 8 are gone by the time the Ducks pick. And no, I don't like the two D (Smith and Mrtka)...they are each too much of a project pick for my liking.

If we pick 9th, it’s one of O’Brien / Elkund / McQueen / Mrtka (probably this order for me)

Assuming Schaefer/ Misa / Hagens / Porter / Frondell / Caleb Is some combo of the top 6-8. Then we’d get our choice of 2 of the 4 above.

I don't necessarily love Martin with the pick but 3C right shot buzz saw is a great piece for contending and I think creating a matchup hell in the middle does a lot in the post season. How would you matchup your NHL team against a center core of the players below in a world where these players reach most of their potential?

Carlsson
McTavish
Martin
Gaucher

Definitely not the upside pick. The upside picks are McQueen and Mrtka imo. O'Brien to a bit lesser extent.

Who ever the pick is they likely don't debut or at least enter their effective NHL player window until this is a playoff team, maybe even one entering their contention window. So this pick can likely be perceived as "who do you want coming in to push this team towards cup contention?". An additional potential top 6 game breaker (McQueen), a super sized D with 2 way potential (Mrtka), or a gritty goal scoring 3C that creates a matchup hell for your opponents.

Personally I'm kinda cool with whatever, I'm just happy that this team seems to have an established foundation to build on and that this pick doesn't really make or break the rebuild imo.

Yeah this is kinda where I’m at, idk if Martin will have the highest ceiling of the guys who will be available to us so if you’re the type of dude who just believes in drafting the highest ceiling player with wherever you’re picking in the first round I could understand why you wouldn’t be a fan of the pick, however I can’t help but feel like Martin if he hits would be the perfect player to round out this particular forward group we’re building here and I’m not in love with the upside of any of the other guys who will likely be available at our pick so I’d just go with Martin

There is about a 0% chance McQueen is available at our pick. A physical 6'5 right shot C who can score is going to go a lot earlier than people think he will. He would be my 1st choice from about pick 4.

I do like the higher ceiling guys that are available and would be very happy with one of these guys:
O'Brien
Mrtka
Lakovic

I did like Bear but he sort of falls into the Martin camp for me and the injury isn't going to help his lack of speed or development.

Justing Carbonneau could be a smokey for our pick if we win a few more games. Madden was spotted at a game where both Carbonneau and Desnoyers were playing so he could have been scouting him as well.

Ideally we have access to one of the C that are in that top 8 but chances are we miss out on all of them.
