If he's available, use a later round pick on Thorpe's teammate, Mazden Leslie, who the Habs probably should have drafted 2 years ago, but might as well take a chance, or even just give him an ELC if he goes undrafred.
I am surprised he wasn’t drafted in his D0 year. There has to be some issue with him that all teams passed on him

He's definitely worth a pick, maybe even as high as the third round TBH. I could see him be a solid AHLer at the very least. He got a few invites to prospect camps in the past, so he's on some team's radar already.

Buium, Luchanko and Helenius all went 12-14 last year. Any of them would be terrific adds to our system.

I know Arpon's connected but he had many believing the Habs were leaning towards taking Buium at #5 last year in the days leading up to the draft in June. I sometimes wonder if the Habs use him to sandbag other teams.
The sweet spot is around 10-12. In every single draft, you always get one or two players dropping out of the top 10. I remember so many people here having Sam Dickinson or Buium in the top 5-10 in 2024.

It would be nice to see Ryabkin play in USHL. He is someone we can target with our pick or Calgary.

Yeah but a bunch went before demidov who should have been 2nd.
youd take him Over Demidov?
There’s a couple of ways to look at it. That Schaefer would have been taken by Chicago if he was available in D2024 instead of Levshunov. Very possible. Furthermore players with health issues were a hot commodity in that draft…:help:

IMO, there’s no one available in D2025 that comes close to Demidov. He would go 1OA in D2025 with the knowledge of what happened in the six months since D2024. Nevertherless, Demidov might go 5OA again in D2025 with the same info teams had about him on the day of D2024.

Horrific mock just now…

The players taken after the Habs’ 2nd pick are the ones I’d want, not C.R.

If our pick ends around #12, I would imagine they try hard to get up to get Desnoyers or Frondell. While they will have the draft capital to do it, it would require a willing partner. Ideally we'd get one of those guys or Eklund without emptying the stock of picks though. I'd rather empty those picks on immediate roster help for next year. We'll see how things shake out, we may be firmly inside the top 10 picks in the end.

Assuming Lakovic will be on our NO DRAFT list due to attitude concerns

Not a lot of size in that 8-15 range

Desnoyers, Mrtka, Spence and Carbonneau are the likely targets IMO

Imo this is the yr where we should go in our own backyard.

Carbonneau = Duclair without the attitude red flags
Desnoyers = Easily the best of the 3 skills and IQ wise. The Pettersson esque weight to height ratio is a bit scary and might limit his potential as a two way dynamo
Zonnon = Biggest wildcard. More rudimentary offensive game than the other two, but with good development could become the best of the 3.

Do you have any links to the concerns mentioned?
Edit: I saw the four-player suspension for a non-criminal reason. Not clear what the reason was.

I tried looking into it but it's all rumors, nobody ever said what happened. The only place I saw people openly speculating on it was on Reddit and they could be BSing

Still it's probably enough for us to steer clear

My brain is in a rollercoaster right now. At the beginning of the season, I was ok with a bad or good season because I saw the benefits with both. But with the bad start, I was all in for an other top 5 pick. The good stretch with Laine change our ranking and draft capital. I now do not know what I want at draft day. Do I Hope for a trade up with both first + for Desnoyers (poor possibility if we look at past drafts), a trade of our firsts for a top4 D (Dobson would be a dream or Rasmussen depending what Calgary wants to do) or a combination of Bear/Spence and Mrtka/Hensler/Fiddler… January would be telling
