My 1st choice is definitely Schaefer and it's not even close for me. But unless we win the lottery, it won't be happening. So other than him, i want the best center available. So it would be :

Hagens
Misa
Frondell
Desnoyers

I've seen Schaefer and Martone on some pundits' list for the U20. Hagens should be there as well. With a great performance on the big stage, Schaefer will make his case for 1OV (already is in my book). Fun times ahead with the WJR.

2025 NHL Draft: Scouting reports from the Hlinka Gretzky Cup

Eddie Genborg, RW: Genborg was on Sweden’s first line, although it acted more as a checking unit. He wants to hit everyone in sight – period. I don’t see much offensive potential but he’s hard to play against, and that’s good. He became a favorite of mine later in the tournament because while he didn’t do much with the puck, he did a lot without it – and scouts notice things like that.

Eddie Genborg (Linkoping HC J20)

Another guy with a large, physical presence on the ice is Eddie Genborg. He is 6’2 and 185 lbs. at just 17 years old–clearly, size is his advantage. He is a heavy hitter and plays with a lot of energy. The forward has notched 27 points in 19 games with Linkoping HC this season and represented Sweden’s international junior team in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

While he is a playmaker, his talent lies not so much in what he does with the puck, but what he does without it– something scouts like to keep an eye out for. Eddie could be a phenomenal pickup for a team looking to build up their physicality and size.

My thoughts after the Prospect Games.

Since he seems to be the Prospect du Jour in this thread, I start with Desnoyers.

I remember liking him in last Spring's U-18s (as well as most of the 25's, to be honest. I found them better than the 24's). Back to Desnoyers.

I see him as a great 190 foot center, meaning he is great until he gets close the the opposition's net. He reminds me a lot of Jan Bulis. He gets so many chances but lacks in finishing ability. For me, right now, he is Phil Danault. I wouldn't draft him in the top 10 right now.

Martone is still my favourite for this draft class. Even if he didn't produce as much as I would have liked, sh*t happens whenever he is on the ice. IMHO, he was the play driver on that line. He has a Tkachuk quality to his game that the Habs sorely lack. I don't care that he isn't a center. I only wish that he would skate better.

Matthew Schaefer is the only challenger to Martone for me. Also, I don't care that he is a LD. He would be the true #1 d-man that has been missing since Markov was in his prime. Guhle has shown that he is capable of playing on RD. He would be an ideal partner for Schaefer IMHO.

Misa was a major disappointment for me. Was it because he played on the wing for these games? I was expecting so much more.

For the rest of Team CHL, no one really made me change my opinion of them.

There were only 2 players on the team that for me, I really disliked, Fiddler on D was to quote the great philosopher Charles Barkley... or was it Shaq? Hor-awful. For the forwards, I did not like Reschny (SP).

The only American player that I liked was Murtagh. He is a mobile finisher that a team can never have enough of.

I don't know if the Americans did the same as the Russians did when they played the CHL back in the day, and leave some of their best players off the team, or if this is just a down year for their age group this year. I did not find them impressive compared to previous groups.

Schaefer's dominance is weirdly arrogant. That's how I can describe him. He's everywhere. This kid is special. Martone is like a Tkachuk clone and his DNA is what Montreal is lacking. Desnoyers is complete and compete - you can never go wrong with that. Misa is dominant but I don't like his demeanor on the ice, maybe that's juste me. James Hagens has less exposure and I don't know if playing with Leonard/Perreault is really showing what he can do on his own. I think his size will affect his draft rank unless he dominates the World Juniors.

Hope Montreal can land a top 3-4 pick to add to Demidov. Schaefer would transform our defense entirely. He's a gamebreaker. Then you have Martone who would be immense in our top 6. Desnoyers, we need to trade up with the Flames pick. He's a must.
