Here's the Jets draft pick summary after trading away all their 2nd and 4th round picks for the next three seasons:

And for comparison, here's Colorado:

And Dallas:

Dallas also traded their 2028 1st. I believe the reason their 2027 1st wasn't traded was because it's tied up in the conditions for the 2026 1st rounder - so they can't trade it until after next season I think? It would have to be mathematically impossible for them to miss the playoffs in 2025-26 before they could trade it, so it's probably locked up through next year's deadline.

The number 1 pick this year (2025)

What is his projection?

I don't think its Crosby and McDavid level

But can that player reach

McKinnon?
Matthews?

or someone else?

Thanks

Haven't been following draft picks since Jets don't pick top 10 recently. Which i don't mind for now :)

I'm hearing zero hype about whoever the top pick is supposed to be. But maybe the farther your team is from the 1st pick, the quieter the hoopla around the draft seems...

Yeah i think you are right on both insights.

Also i think the draft this year might not be as good? Base on the main board post ( not as many posting and hyping etc) and online read.

Thanks

Anyone seen Simon Wang of the Oshawa Generals play this season? He’s rated right around where we’d have our 1st round pick.

I've read he's really new to hockey, and he graduated to the Generals from the OJHL during this season. 2 assists on the year. Seems like a project for sure.

Henry Brzustewicz is another bigger defenseman, which seems like a need going forward, in that draft range.

Kashawn Aitcheson is one kid I've had my eye on for awhile. Great skater, solid puck mover, plays with a lot of edge to his game. LD but by the time he is likely ready for the NHL it's probably 4+ years away and Morrissey will be pushing 34/35.

It's a stretch to say he will be available at the back end of the 1st round but if we could get him I wouldn't complain. There's also a lot of decent overagers in this draft class out of the Dub that could be nice later round pickups.

Looks interesting but rankings seem to say late teens/early 20's so doubtful he's still there.

Yeah we'd likely need him to drop and I think that is unlikely.

Karl Annborn is another to keep an eye on. 6'1, 190lb RHD out of HV71. Has had a taste of SHL but generally playing quite well in J20. Just a solid puck moving two-way Dman who does the little things right. Really good at the escapism that is incredibly useful in today's game. Probably projects as more of a 4-6 with upside to potentially be an offensive contributor and push his way into more of a 2-3 role.

It's really tough to nail down how we will approach this draft without knowing our final draft range. Lots of decent mid tier players still available in that 17-25 range. Falls off a bit after that.

I know, I know. Best player available. But if the Jets can come out of the draft with a big physical defenseman prospect, either LH or RH, that can perhaps be a mini version of Samberg or Salomonsson (one day, 3+ yrs down the road) that would look very good in the prospects stable. We don't really have that type of prospect other than Salo himself.

Thoughts on Carlos Handel from the Mooseheads?

Haven't seen any of him yet. I'm really limited in my views these days so not fully up to snuff on this entire class, especially those projected outside of the 1st round or not playing in the Dub. Looks to be a late 2nd to mid 3rd rounder going by rankings. Might be someone we could look to target with our 3rd rounder potentially. I'll check back in when and if I can get some viewings on him.

Thanks.

Just remember they (broadcasters) were making a big deal about him for Germany at the World Jrs.

Would be nice to have another German prospect in depth chart. Feel like Germany is the next big hockey market primed to explode and if he could break out would be great for the team to get some fans from there.

Bukala mentioned this year's draft is weak only the top half is good which could explain why the top teams traded away their #1s.

Yeah it's definitely the type of draft where if the Jets trade down and grab two 2nds I wouldn't be opposed.
