Shorsey is MUCH less of a commitment in time 4 seasons (24 episodes) vs 12 seasons (81 episodes) of LK.

I challenge @Calicaps to make it through more than 3 episodes of those LK dumbasses and how they all talk!

You don’t need to watch LK to enjoy Shorsey.

I think I tapped out around S4 of LK. I have a high tolerance for shows about nothing with witty banter. But my goodness, I felt like I was getting dumber the more I continued, lol. Maybe I’ll revisit someday.

I prefer Shoresy cause at least there’s more of a point. Each season is only about 2.5 hrs, with good and rewarding arcs. And, hockey jokes along with sports movie cliches make it easy to get invested and root for the guys.

On avatars, my random late night thought is: Protas. Just all things BIG Pro. Pro as The Hulk; Pro as Ivan Drago; Pro as Groot; Pro as Paul Bunyan; Pro as Godzilla; Pro as the Terminator; Pro as King Kong.

Generally, we have a pretty gigantic team - can we do anything with that?

Large is a good theme since many teams comments here on how large the Caps are.

I would rather focus on something less ....insecure feeling...than "misfit" or unwanted players. That just seems a little too hypersensitive and negative, and like playing into the HF haters hands too much.

OTOH, the Caps have the most wins when trailing. Comeback Caps are back.

Never being out of the fight/game feels better to me as something to put forward and fall back on when they get behind. If they get behind.

Especially given the outside impression of the team re: the window being closed and just being all about 895 there for a while. One stellar off-season and the script is flipped. Given what's coming it may not be a one-off either. But also they're less good on home ice so they may get themselves into hot water early if they're not careful.

Either that or something incorporating their pre-game / post-game routines and how tight they are make sense.

Edit: Or #3...got that dawg in them.

I won’t change my avatar because I really like it. It was from a playoff theme in the early Ovie era.

I’m not sure about the underdogs. We are 1st in the league and should act like it.

Honestly not trying to crap on LK, just wasn’t my thing. Shoresy was just way easier for me to get invested in and enjoy.

Anyone superstitious? Looking back, in 2018 we did a villain / Tom Wilson unmasked theme.

Nobody except us would remember it was a repeat idea.

I still like the misfit toys or similar. Maybe something about the great HF crash of 2025.

For a playoff avatar theme I definitely like something about slamming the window back open. Protas, PLD, Ovi, Chychrun, etc. as the Kool Aid Man? Window repair company?

Could do variations on the “how to talk to short people” meme with Pro/PLD/Wilson/Ovie’s face on the tall one and the opponent’s best player’s face on the short one.

So like, first image is “No” with Wilson and Panarin’s faces, second image is “Yes” and it’s this pic.

Would it be poor form to mock the avatars of popular Rangers fans? Could have some fun with a few of them.

Of course, I have so many on my ignore list that I wouldn't even know what a lot look like.

I think HF should have city bets among the mods, much like governors bet with each other on championship games.

I agree with this. I think the fairest thing to say is that Letterkenny is way more esoteric. I personally loved it, but it has its weak moments/elements (I never took to the skids characters). It's not for everyone.

Shoresy is for hockey fans, speaks to the best things about hockey culture, does a pretty perfect job of immediately setting its own tone, with its own charms and rhythms and is endlessly quotable.

It's absolutely still a Keeso show with a lot of the same signature oddball humor, but if you love hockey, chances are you'll love this show. Each episode is about 20 minutes, and you'll either get it immediately after one or two installments or it's not for you.

For the avatars, it's easy to reject a theme on spec, but some of the ones mentioned here have potential if we actually dig in.

1. So the "bring out your dead!" idea is solid. The dude with the cart saying bring out your dead or whatever the quote is, then we toss guys in the cart... Rejected PLD, Abandoned Strome, Journeyman Chychrun, McMichael the Bust, Protas the Slow, Wilson the Goon, LT the Backup. Then you either do a resurrection type thing like someone suggested -- one's a terminator, one's a zombie, one's a phoenix, etc. -- or maybe like a Voltron thing where these guys were lesser on their own but together are an unstoppable force...
   
   
2. Or maybe a WALL-E thing, where he putters around picking up everyone's trash, shovels it into his tummy, and pops out a kickass hockey team. That opening sequence of the movie is crazy long with clips of him finding trash he likes, might not be too hard to carve out a few...
   
   
3. The Island of Misfit Toys thing... A few cliparts of broken toys labelled as castoff/undeveloped/misunderstood Caps players, then put 'em all in the frame, zoom out to satellite view of an island marked Misfit Toys, then erase that title and splash a Caps logo on it followed by quick clips of those Caps kicking ass...

Anyway, let's maybe drill down to some actual ideas cuz they land better than themes in the abstract.

Voltron is interesting. I also had the thought of Square Pegs.

I do also like the large theme ideas and the open window/never out of it ideas.

Maybe it's only meaningful to some long-time fans: Given that this is their 50th anniversary season, I was wondering whether there was any way to incorporate the team's woeful beginnings (i.e. 8-67-5) into the playoff avatars, but nothing compelling comes to mind.

No no no. Under no circumstances should that specter be invoked around this team. Keep that garbage and it’s accursed can far far away.
