Isn't it just top-10 protected? If it goes to next year, that's because TB drops back so far that it's a top-10 pick? I don't really see them falling that far out of it. If they miss the playoffs, it'll be just barely, so we'll get the pick. Best case maybe it's like a #14. Worst case maybe like a #18. But it's going to be this year either way, right?
Yes, unless Tampa falls into the bottom 10.

Yeh it is top 10 protected. I have a hard time seeing them dropping into the top 10 this far into the season. It is possible though. Right now theyre up 5 points and have games in hand on 22nd place in the league. But theyre also just outside top 3 in their division with games in hand there as well. Probably more likely they end up top 3 in their division then top 10 pick

Right now im hoping Vegas just doesnt win the presidents cup and loses in the 1st round.

I think we're starting to lock down at least a top-10 pick in this draft.

The Sharks and the Hawks are obviously going to be the bottom-two.

We're only a few points back from Sabres, Kraken and the Ducks. These team I can see us passing.

Who knows what's going to happen in PIT. They might fall off. Same goes for the Canadiens.

Blues and Utah will probably stay ahead of us.

Both New York teams are figuring it out and will get close to the playoff line.

Worst case: 8th pick

Most likely case: 3rd pick

worst case scenario we end up with Fronded, Eklund, Martone (he will fall) maybe Desnoyers ( I think he goes 4 OA) or Mcqueen ...all which would be great options

If we end up at 3 OA do we go Misa or Hagens?

I believe this is correct.

Blake is Vern Fiddler’s kid! :eek3:
Oh you know we are taking him then. Get ready.

I would be content with either Frondell or Martone. Eklund's a smaller winger and at this draft, we need to target premium positions. Desnoyers has some question marks in his game and is harder to evaluate because he plays in a lower-level league.

As for the top-3 pick, I'd go Hagens over Misa but could be convinced otherwise as well.

I haven't looked at any of them enough to choose yet, but I am at least happy to see the rise of Schaefer to the consensus #1, so we won't actually have to pick first to get the guy we think is the best C, and even if we picked #3 one of Hagens or Misa would be there.

I'm pretty confident San Jose would take Schaefer anyway. Chicago is probably still in a "needs everything" mode, so I don't know. :dunno:

Based on current knowledge, SJ will go for the D whereas CHI will target one of the centers. In my mind that's now Misa as Hagens is on the smaller side and they already have Bedard and Nazar as sub-6-foot centers. They went for Levshunov with the 2nd OA last year, I can't see them going for a defenseman again even though that might just be best player.

Not sure what chicago needs tbh. Right now they have Bedard (1st overall 2023) and Nazar (13th overall 2022) as emerging centers. Not really seeing much on wing. They might need a Martone more than a Hagens/Misa.

Either way, we should have one of Hagens, Misa, Frondell available. Worst case Desnoyers or McQueen

What are the chances Hagens is still around at #3? Haven't been paying super close attention the last couple months but I know he's been discussed as a 1OA for a while.

No idea. But he's not putting up huge numbers and is a little undersized? Misa is putting up huge numbers and is at least "regular size". It probably wouldn't take much for a team out there to like somebody other than Schaefer ahead of Hagens at this point? The consensus after them will probably shift again after the WJC-18 at the end of April? IIRC Hagens won't play in it... Misa's team isn't a powerhouse but will be in the OHL playoffs, so he might not either. Others outside of them may get more attention? :dunno:

Tampa is six points ahead of the Blues who currently sit with the 10th overall(not accounting for the lottery).

Doubt they fall that far, but there is still the chance that Tampa hits the lottery assuming they miss the playoffs. They would obviously keep that pick.

Was replying to @Porter Stoutheart on last page...

Not sure if Tampa keeping that pick and sliding it to next year would be the worst thing ever.

Yes, Hagens and Martinez are too old. Misa could play, as could O’Brien but O’Brien’s team is coming on and may still be in playoffs. Denoyers will likely be in playoffs as his team is quite strong. Frondell is one who I really want to see how he stacks up; with strong u18 he could shoot up rankings into top 3.

Impossible to guess, but I don't think they'll be going quietly... the Kucherov/Point/Hagel/Guentzel/Hedman/Vasy core is locked in for a bit yet, so I imagine they are just going to keep trying their best to compete next year, and use the Cap rise to add a bit of depth. So I don't think there's any realistic hope that Tampa will suddenly bottom out... in either year?

We'll probably just get a #12-20 pick this year, so it won't come up. :dunno:

End of the day, we can all just remember that it was for Tanner Jeannot, soooooo... we win regardless! :D

Fiddler would be nice pick with one of the later firsts. A bit raw, but big mobile rhd with legit top 4 upside. And unlike Barron, he actually looks to be strong in own zone.
Fiddler sounds like a good target. I would love to get a guy like Smith or Mrtka with one of our 1sts, but we'd probably have to trade up to get our hands on guys like those.

He’s demolishing the Q which is still higher end than the USHL. He has been a riser with every pundit as well. Hes not going to be a Mitch Marner, more of a Sean Coutirier who I would still take

No defense in the 1st round

Eklund plays like he’s 6’6… he’s been a big time riser too… not afraid of his size
