Jesus, 13 losses in a row. We're bound to draft 8th-14. Of course a team with three no.1 picks is good at losing
Yep.

Like I've said previously, I'm intrigued by the top-six/seven-ish (Hagens, Martone, Schaefer, Misa, Frondell, McQueen, Desnoyers) in this draft. After that, there's a noticeable drop-off.

Frondell's one guy I hope would drop to us. Big, skilled center with two-way abilities. Skating a bit of an issue, it's ROR-like. So, not a burner by any means. But ultimately, I figure a center like Frondell will end up going in the top-five.

Desnoyers is another interesting player within the top-10. Skilled center like Frondell but I think has a bit more offensive flair to his game and smoother skater as well. Not as pure a center as Frondell, though.

I do wonder if Roger McQueen is a drop-off candidate at this draft. Highly-skilled, 6-5 winger with great offensive upside but hasn't played much this year so the top teams at the draft might be a bit suspicious on drafting him. Only played 8 games this year but scored 8 goals in those games.

Yeah, Sabres are a train-wreck.

I do think the teams that will ultimately finish below us are:

Sabres
Ducks
Sharks
Blackhawks
Wings
Canadiens
Jackets
Kraken (maybe)

So, that would mean 8th-9th pick for us.

I honestly feel like this organization is now in deep, deep trouble. Even if we were by some miracle end up with a top-five pick, I have zero faith in this organization’s ability to develop that talent. Or any talent whatsoever these days…

Well its mind blowing because anyone looking at the league over the last two decades should be able to see that teams aren't winning cups when they are old, they are winning them when their top talent is below 30 years old. So as an organization we will be constantly shooting ourselves in the foot if we don't learn to utilize our younger talent sooner rather than later.

Of the teams you mentioned, I only see the Sabres, Ducks, Hawks and Canadiens potentially finishing below us. The Sharks and Jackets in particular are teams I think end up having incredible second half seasons.

I see it as a three legged race for the bottom. Us, Blackhawks, and Sharks. The Blackhawks and Sharks have their 1OA already so they're on the rebound part of their rebuild (if it happens). We're keeping pace with those guys with all our loser points, but not sure the front office realizes we're already in a total rebuild situation and more flailing isn't going to help.

I don't think we're nearly as bad as we have shown from our record so far. Realistically, I think we're about the 20th best team in the league, not 29th. We've had some bad puck luck, still early for the team to gel, etc etc. I bet we finish with a pick between 5th and 10th.

Would you feel the same if we traded Novak for a 3rd round pick 3 drafts from now and Evangelista for a 4th round pick 4 drafts from now? Just wondering.

Have either of the sharks or Blackhawks won the lottery twice in the past five years

Our best players are good enough over an 82 game season to keep us out of the bottom 5. I think we finish with a pick between 5-10 unless we have serious injuries and/or trade away Josi, Forsberg, Stamkos, ROR, or Saros.

Got it.

I think we're way, way too thin. We're already seeing some injuries, but when Josi is played 30+ minutes a game and Stamkos, ROR, Nyquist are played 20+ minutes ... well, it's just not going to hold up. Especially when the rest of the NHL cranks it up for the playoff push. If we continue to dump every guy that Bruno dislikes, it'll just be that much worse.

I hope you're right, for a lot of reasons. Advanced stats, preseason expectations, and our OT loss count makes me think things will get better. Of course, Bruno losing the locker room even more, injuries, or wear and tear from overplaying guys could mean we get even worse from here.
