2025 NHL DRAFT

Until they see him play…
Whatever. If we win the lottery and pick #1 OA, sure, it will be a mildly interesting conversation as to whether we should have taken BPA Schaefer vs. possible-unicorn-1C-whoever. But nobody is really going to get upset if we take the BPA instead of the wild swing at the pitch in the dirt.

I just don't see the point in talking about Schaefer today, since it's like 90% we won't even get a chance at him? :dunno:

WRT Schaefer

We really do need all positions so taking him wouldn't tear me up BUT we have never really drafted a high end center so I'd personally prefer that.

Don't know if any of y'all have checked in on the main board mock draft...but it's pretty wild for us.

To San Jose: Roman Josi
To Nashville: Sam Dickinson, Kasper Halttunen, 2026 1st (EDM), 2025 2nd (#33)

To Carolina: Filip Forsberg, Ryan O'Reilly, 2026 4th (PIT)
To Nashville: Andrei Svechnikov, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Dominik Badinka

To Nashville: 2025 1st (#10)
To NY Islanders: Matthew Wood, 2025 1st (#30), 2025 2nd (#33)

To Nashville: Owen Tippett
To Philadelphia: Fyodor Svechkov, Michael Bunting, Teddy Stiga

To Colorado: Nick Blankenburg
To Nashville: Josh Manson, Zakhar Bardakov

To Nashville: Jack Quinn, 2025 5th (#132)
To Buffalo: Joakim Kemell, Jeremy Lauzon, 2025 3rd (#67)

Then the daft.

Round 1
3 Nashville Predators: Porter Martone, RW, Brampton (OHL)
10 Nashville Predators (from New York Islanders): Roger McQueen, C, Brandon (WHL)
24. Nashville Predators (from Tampa Bay Lightning): Brady Martin, C, Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)

Round 2
35. Nashville Predators: Sascha Boumedienne, LHD, Boston University (NCAA)
56. Nashville Predators (from Tampa Bay Lightning): Pyotr Andreyanov, G, CSKA (MHL)

Round 4
99. Nashville Predators: David Lewandowski, LW, Saskatoon (WHL)

Round 5
131. Nashville Predators: Aron Dahlqvist, LHD, Brynas (J20 Nationell)
132. Nashville Predators (from Buffalo Sabres): Julius Saari, LHD, Jokerit (U20 SM-sarja)

Round 6
163. Nashville Predators: Jayden Kraus, G, Victoria (WHL)
186. Nashville Predators (from Colorado Avalanche): Maxim Moiseyev, RHD, Omskie (MHL)
Translating this:

Trotz is a little town on the coast of England in 865 AD defended by a flock of disgruntled chickens. The rest of the NHL GMs are the long ships full of Vikings sailing up onto the beach.

There will be much mayhem, raping, pillaging, looting, and torching. Tally-ho!

lol Trotz would be fired if he did all this garbage plus FF9 and Josi have no trade clauses. Also giving up Kemmel, Sveckov, and Wood for draft picks in a shitty draft is insane. We would be in a rebuild for over a decade and never a Cup contender if all this happened.

lol no just no. He wasn’t much better than Gibson or Molendyk at the World juniors. This franchise has had enough Defensemen. My fear is another Seth Jones scenario happens where he falls to us at 4 when we are excited to get one of the top 3 forwards in the draft.

 Schaefer is 2 years younger than Gibson & Molendyk and only played 2 games?

By all accounts Gibson was awful and out of place in the WJC.

And Schaefer is going #1 so there is no Seth Jones scenario. This draft just doesn’t have the same calibre of challengers.

The consensus from Scouts is the draft is not weak - maybe not super high upside guys like a Bedard , but a lot of depth in this first 25 or so spots

Top 10 is soild after that it’s a drop off in quality and end of the 1st and 2nd is like a normal 3rd round. Yes there are players to be found like any draft but the depth isn’t there. There is a reason teams were willing to trade 1st round picks years in advance of this draft.

Bruno can no longer have the title of worst teams in predators history. This makes me sad as I think he deserves it.

Oh well we still only need 1 loss or 1 philly win to secure 3rd worst record for the season.
Ehh. There was no OT in ‘98-‘99. Under that system this team would only have 59 points. Plus 5th/27 is a much better finish than 3rd/32. I still rate this as worse.

Combined with players on the roster and the expectations, this is a far worse season. Even in their present condition, Stamkos, O'Reilly, Forsberg and Josi are far and away better players than anyone on that initial roster. Heck, Nyquist or Bunting would have been the "star" player on that team. Imagine being able to substitute a shaky Saros in for Mike Dunham.

Even in this terrible season Forsberg is going to get 30 goals and 70 something points. That would have been unheard of on that team

If we somehow we win the lottery and get the 1st pick and we draft Schaefer I'll be extremely disappointed. Schaefer might be the best player in the draft and we are in need of more defenseman but this team has had some elite defenseman in there years and has only made it out of the 2nd round once. This team needs a top end center more than anything.

"Extremely disappointed" if we win the draft lottery and get the #1OA pick is definitely not how I'd look at it. It would be a fairly Perd thing to do with this year's draft configuration, but if it happened, we shouldn't be anything but happy and excited to get Schaefer. Or to have a little post-draft fun berating Trotz for not trading down with SJ to #2 and picking up an extra choice asset or something like that. It'd still be Fun Times.

I'll be fine with Schaefer. He is probably the more sure bet for reaching his full potential (especially in Nashville). I still want my unicorn though so I'd prefer to move up to 2nd instead with SJS winning 1st. Next draft we can win 1st overall after another miserable season. Grab McKenna to compliment Misa and away we go.

IF we draft Schaefer If we win the the 1st overall yea I'll be disappointed. It would be a predators way to draft him when this franchise hasn't ever had a true star number 1 center in its existence but has had plenty of top defenseman that hasn't translated into nothing but a team making it out of the first round a handful of times.

I think every single person on this board would LOVE if we could get that elusive 1C especially after a disaster of a season like this one.

But the harsh reality is that there might not be a true, elite 1C available in this draft. Misa went completely MIA in the OHL playoffs which is not a good sign. Frondell's not lighting it up in Allsvenskan, either. Hagens has his limitations.

I sincerely hope that Trotz and co. make their decision based on facts and not feelings of fans. Schaefer could be the only game-breaking talent in this draft and looking at our current D-core he would do wonders for it.

After all the noise Trotz has made about trading up to draft a 1C if he has the chance and drafts a defenseman he should be fired on the spot. As others have said we have had Norris defensemen forever and it's got us one run in 27 years. 1C or bust
