NHL 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

I'll be honest with you Dan.

Unless they go totally off the board, they are going to get a player for sure.

I'm not spending near as much time looking at potential first round picks as I am looking at the second round and later. That's where your scouting department is going to earn their cash and what I am focusing on.
Yes agree

I am excited for day 2 actually having second and third round picks

Can't vouch for the guy who did this write up but do you see 2nd round potential maybe the late Carolina pick? I know you don't do comps but I say a little Cirelli-ish.

Unfortunately, I did that write up.

I was higher on Czata even just 6 weeks ago. But he has dipped. How far, I haven't decided yet.

There is no way you take him top 6; although maybe closer with Martone than I might think. I take O'Brien over him every time.

Positive with McQueen is he is Big. Also a bit of a concern, as we often see big people succeed in juniors just because of size. McQueen doesn't skate well. Injured a lot. No real history of production. Maybe he does something crazy in postseason, and suddenly breaks out, but to this point his production is good but far from great.
\
McQueen is all hype, it is all imagine what he could be if suddenly he puts it all together. Absolutely nothing about what he has done.
Sweeney is getting live looks at least to go with the tape.

Bob Essensa was recently in London (Medvedev)
McQuaid was recently in Moncton (Desnoyers and Johansson)
Nadeau was recently in Brantford (O'Brien)

They are out in force.
That is good to hear. This upcoming pick and draft has major implications for both the organization and its current management.

I'm surprised at the McQueen sentiment in here
I don't think it has anything to do with the player, but more the state of the franchise at the moment. Most fans are looking for a quick turnaround and a sure thing to step in soon at the cost of this season they are watching trudge along.

I think its fear that if they take a risk and fail where will the team be then? Where is the idol of hope for the team going forward?

The fact of the matter is anything can happen. Bergeron could have retired early like Savard due to concussions instead of the TD crew making room for his banner. Us getting a high pick and getting Misa can net us the next top offensive player, or a player who cant put it all together. The fact is the draft is ALWAYS a gamble. There are too many factors in the game, life, and the future to call anyone or anything a sure thing.

Fans want comfort and McQueen having a back injury this young makes some fans nervous. The reality is that future comfort is an illusion as anything can happen any day we wake up. Here locally people I know all had houses on a beautiful riverbank raising their families one day. Then the next the land and houses were all gone with the flood from Helen. many never seeing family again.
We as humans always want to hedge our bets, and I think we cant really blame posters for wanting to do just that when they feel so much is on the line at this draft.

Don will do his job and know what his choices are. He will pick as best he knows how and time will tell if that wager turns out to pay off or not. No matter who he chooses.

Do not disagree here but sure hope no reaches.

Who yelled loudest that we should draft Vaak instead of Robert Thomas?
PJ. He actually pounded the table. I wasn't at the draft, but someone I know very well was and as the Bruins were discussing their choice, they clearly saw PJ pound the table.

The 2016-2017 season was Bob Wetick's first with the Bruins scouting the OHL, and while he came with an excellent reputation as Director of Scouting with the North Bay Battalion and OHL Central Scouting, he had not been implanted as a firm voice at the draft table for Boston. Now? He's one of their most trusted and talented scouts.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I assumed it was PJ. That choice probably made me madder than other draft choice since Kluzak over Bellows, b/c they drafted so many dmen and needed a center and if the choice was close, it should have been Thomas.

Especially since they had just selected Zboril, Lauzon and Lindgren as LHD with three premium picks in the two drafts before.

If Martone were available when the Bruins pick, do you think they might take him?

I know most posters here would go crazy if they did.
