NHL 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

McQueen is right in that zone where they’ll most likely pick.
At the start of the season and before he missed the majority of it with a back injury sure he was, but with the Bruins picking anywhere from 3-8 I’m not sold on McQueen being that high anymore come draft day at least not on the majority of teams list.

Hopefully he’s recovered but Sweeney can’t afford a Miss here, I’d just soon see him stay away when there’s just as highly or more highly ranked prospects that will be available when they pick.

Sportsnet has him 7. Central scouting has him 5th for NA skaters. Pronman has him 8th. McKenzie has him 7th. Etc. and they all know about the back. It would be incompetence not to evaluate McQueen.

sweeney gets a ton of crap - some of it is well deserved. but one thing he should get credit for
is dogged pursuit of young talent. he watches a shit ton of games. mcqueen is a guy you really
want eyes on - there's warts like with almost any young guy, but the size/skill/center thing is
something that shouldn't be ignored. do your due diligence, at the very least.

The more I’ve thought about it over the last few weeks of this debacle, the more I like Sweeney and want him in his position for this retool-build

Cam is the guy I’m not sold on anymore and we obviously need new coaching, probably need to completely clean house in that regard.

Agreed its just more than a handful of his choices tend not to be the best, but there's no doubting his intentions or his determination. But I still would rather see him pick a Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Frondell, Desnoyers, Martone or an Eklund over a McQueen and he needs to get this right. McQueen may end up being the top dog who knows, but imo he's to risky for the Bruins, where they'll be picking, needing a win here, and with the likes of the aforementioned possibly still being on the board.

That may well be the case. But I don’t want Sweeney making that decision and not watching a top 10 guy in the draft, especially one who would rank higher except for an injury. He gets all sorts of crap here for supposedly being distracted because he was GM of the Four Nations, now he’s in person watching a WHL game and he’s making bad choices. It’s pretty funny.

You seem to be beating a dead horse here on Sweeney watching a prospect, there's no problem there, hell I hope he scouts as many prospects as humanely possible. Just imo I'd rather see him select another player on draft day and if not I hope its the right one.

I’m all tank but McQueen could be there at 8

I’ve never seen him play live and it’s all reading reviews and videos but he looks like a heck of a prospect

The name alone is worth drafting and the. add size, skating, hands, hair

But he’s been hurt - a lot and it’s back issues

So if the top 6 do u take him

I would love 5 OA to see who Boston selects out of Centers: Frondell & Desnoyers, assuming Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Hagens are gone.

1-4
Schaefer
Misa
Martone
Hagens

5-6
Frondell or Desnoyers

7?????
McQueen
OBrien
Eklund
Smith
Spence

There is no way you take him top 6; although maybe closer with Martone than I might think. I take O'Brien over him every time.

Positive with McQueen is he is Big. Also a bit of a concern, as we often see big people succeed in juniors just because of size. McQueen doesn't skate well. Injured a lot. No real history of production. Maybe he does something crazy in postseason, and suddenly breaks out, but to this point his production is good but far from great.

McQueen is all hype, it is all imagine what he could be if suddenly he puts it all together. Absolutely nothing about what he has done.

If PJ Axelsson is louder than Alain Bissonnette it will be Frondell.

I probably could have written better - the top 6 is a no brainer

I’d go Eklund 7

Then at 8 McQueen was my question

O’Brien is one of fastest rising prospects and is a 200 foot center who sounds like a Bruins guy

People absolutely love this guy I been reading

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Hagens
4. Frondell
5. Desnoyers
6. Martone
7. Eklund
8. McQueen
9. Bear
10. O'Brien

I might be convinced to flip Bear/O'Brien
I like Bear’s motor but his Achilles injury would really scare me for the Bruins long term.

I like this list but I think 8-9-10 for me would be:

O’Brien
McQueen
Edwards

Edwards reminds me of a young Hampus Lindholm. Such a smooth skater. Apparently experts don’t think he has top pairing potential though.

Then you will love Brady Martin.

I would consider him at 10, maybe 9.
Ok good
I’ve been looking over draft stuff and the standings and I’ll take door #2 right now (Frondell or Desnoyers) that is 5OA

Flyers, Buffalo, Kraken, and Pens can all pass us

We should be 4 OA but I’ll be glad to get 5OA and not go backwards

I went to BC-Bentley & PC-Denver yesterday. Hagens is not very big but is smart, quick/fast, opportunistic

I’d definitely be happy with him - we need F

I'll be honest with you Dan.

Unless they go totally off the board, they are going to get a player for sure.

I'm not spending near as much time looking at potential first round picks as I am looking at the second round and later. That's where your scouting department is going to earn their cash and what I am focusing on.
