2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Islanders go 10-1 and Utah goes 14-4. Blues would never get that lucky. Just glad the hawks didn't get the 1.

Am kind of annoyed that Utah jumped up that high though. They were already a pain in the ass and likely even moreso now.

Also loving that the Avs dished out their draft picks like candy at the trade deadline only to exit the first round.
Not only did they give up their 1st for Nelson, they also included their top prospect, Calum Ritchie. And a couple other minor pieces. I wouldn’t have traded just Ritchie for Nelson let alone all that other stuff as well.

How so? I’d love to hear why you found their draft years so similar.

Just the way profiles read about each player. He looks like a solid two-way center, but he needs to work on his skating. Wicked accurate shot.

A lot of the GMGs at the U18 and WJC tourneys are pretty epic but last night’s was not. 7-0 drubbing for Canada. Cootes, Martin and Reschny were Canada’s best players in this tourney IMO. Reschny flashed some seriously good skill and hockey sense. Cootes is more talented than I realized and Martin is a great combo of skill and physicality. If he truly tops out, I could see a Cutter Gauthier type player. More likely though, I see a very good two-way, physical middle-6 winger that adds a lot of intangibles as well.

Sascha didn’t shine as much against the US and Canada. Agree with Kimzey that Frondell looked surprisingly mid in the U18s. But still, he just put up arguably the best U18 performance in the Allsvenskan in history with 25 pts in 29 games. Nylander had 27 pts but in 35 games. Pastrnak had 24 in 36. But 3 pts in 5 games at the U18s? I found that surprising. Not sure what to make of Ekberg. He looked just ok for the ‘67’s but then absolutely destroyed this tourney. Then again, his coach in Ottawa is Dave Cameron (who I think is bad, particularly in generating offense) so who knows. I may need to look into him more. I.Stenberg is going to be an absolute stud. My pick for 2nd overall in 2026 right now.
This. The U18 seems to skyrocket a few every year. You really have to be sold on Reschny being able to pick up the pace skating. I still think he's a late first or 2nd in this draft. Ekberg had a great tourney, but so did LJ Mooney. Is it NHL playoff hockey? I don't think so. I still think he's a 3rd round pick ultimately. Sascha didn't shine in those games, but then again....who did most players in this tourney pad their stats against? I don't think he's a first rounder in any other draft. Maybe a late one in this one.

Keep in mind with Frondell, he did just finish a playoff before he came here. I think he is still one of the top 4-10 talents in this draft with a bracket of guys depending on what each organization wants or trades.

We are just going to have to see who falls to us.

I’m just getting into the prospects but is there any chance Reschny is an available at 19? Seems like that might be a bit late for him but he screams Blues pick. Skating is just ok but he’s skilled, competitive and plays 200ft.

This draft is pretty weak. I could be convinced to spend our 1st on G Ravensbergen.
We haven't seen a goalie profile as strongly as Ravensbergen in several seasons. Cossa w/ Detroit is the last one to come to mind. I imagine some team is going to grab him in the top 15.

This year's draft class doesn't do a lot for me and as we sit here today, I think we see the Blues move that pick in a package for a roster player.

I think they definitely need to get a goalie at some point in the draft this year, not sure about a first round pick. But if he is BPA then whatever, I agree with others I wouldn't mind seeing us move the pick as a part of a package to fill a need.

Is there a chance? Yes. But as of today, I’d guess he’s most likely to go in the 13-18 range. But he’s 5’10” and undersized guys tend to drop lower than their pre-draft rankings every year. So yes, there’s a chance.

I just don’t see it with Ravensbergen.

He’s…big. As for actual talent, I much prefer Ivankovic. I see both as 2nd rounders though. I’d be quite disappointed if we chose Ravensbergen at 19. I think we should try to add a goalie this year…but not in the 1st.

I'm hoping McQueen's back drops him to us, but I doubt it. Would rather use the pick (along with other assets) on a young RHD from an earlier draft and take chances on European players with our fifth and sixth round picks. This is a weak draft, and I'm not expecting much from any player here, so I figure that this is the time to take chances on potential and stockpile later round picks for 2026 using players like Leddy, Faulk, and others.

Lines - while likely not accurate for players and where they'll go - has the only 7-round mock draft I've seen online (EDIT: I should say that I don't have to pay for; I don't get a lot of money on disability.). It has Karl Annborn (RHD, Sweden), Roman Bausov (RHD, Russia), and Julius Sumpf (center, Germany) as options below our fifth-round pick (which is Filip Ekberg), and options like Gustav Hillstrom (center, Sweden), Eetu Orpana (center, Finland), and Dominik Pavlik (center, Czechia) as options below our sixth-round pick (Chase Jette).

I don’t have any concerns with Reschny’s skating. Were Schwartz’s or Granlund’s skating any better?

Fair point on the U18s being a far cry from NHL playoff hockey. Ekberg is 5’10” though. That’s undersized. Mooney is 5’7”. That’s tiny. Pretty much an unworkable level of tiny. My guess is Ekberg goes in the giant hole we currently have between picks 19 and 147 (19th pick of round 5) so likely a moot point on him.

Seems a little harsh on Sascha. Not making Petro comparisons for him anymore, huh? I see him as a definite 1st rounder. But closer to 20. He’ll be someone I try to watch more tape on though. Just no other 17 yr old d-men in the NCAA to compare him to.

Frondell was healthy scratched a lot of the Allsvenskan finals. But maybe he was tired or dinged up or something. Idk. But also not going to put much thought into it as he’s going to be long gone before 19.
