2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I think if the Blues are in the 10-15 range they should be looking at Brady Martin…could be a very good, playoff-type center in the NHL. His numbers are starting to pile up for a very mediocre Soo Greyhounds team, and he’s a future middle-6 center which a team can never have too many of.

I like Bear and Spence more.

I like Martin, O’Brian, Bear and Spence in the 12-15 range.

Logan Hensler, D, Wisconsin (NCAA): Hensler, who averaged 12:12 of ice time in seven games for the United States at the 2025 WJC, has good size (6-2, 192), strength and smarts. The right-handed shot has 11 points (two goals, nine assists) and 22 blocked shots in 27 games as a college freshman.

If Cameron Reid were 2 inches taller i think he would be top 5 pick. Upon multiple viewings, he has always been super impressive. I think he is 2nd best defenseman in the draft, even though I'm not sure I would take him 2nd highest due to size and handedness. We could do worse than him if we pick in teens.

Pronman with an updated list out today. 2025 NHL Draft ranking: Matthew Schaefer, Michael Misa lead Pronman’s March top 32 list

Desnoyers keeps moving up in these lists. My hopes of somehow getting him are continually getting dashed..

Yeah I think Desnoyers is going to be out of reach. I expect us to land anywhere between the 12th and 18th pick. Truth is the talent in that range doesn't really blow me away. I know we don't really have any other picks in the draft and I am fine with that given the weakness of talent this year. I still think we have to consider trading that pick with maybe a plus to go after a young cost controlled talent. There has been smoke on so many quality young RHD that we could potentially target. Our 1st+ for Dobson, Clarke or Nemec.

Malcolm Spence may still be around or Logan Hensler MAY fall. They could always reach for someone that plays really well at world Juniors down the middle.

Not big on Spence myself and Hensler is RHD with pretty good size in a draft that is light on defense especially in the first round. Someone will reach for him in the top10 to top12.

Any reason? Because I’d rather swing for the fences with Ryabkin than be safe with a prospect like Spence.
Because he has been awful. Disinterested and unproductive in Russia, meh in ushl. There will be better options than Spence available. There is really nice group of Swedish forwards, for instance.

Here is my updated top 30:
  1. Schaefer
  2. Misa
  3. Frondell
  4. Desnoyers
  5. Hagens
  6. Martone
  7. Mrtka
  8. O’Brien
  9. Eklund
  10. Martin
  11. Reid
  12. McQueen
  13. Carbonneau
  14. Gastrin
  15. Smith
  16. Hensler
  17. Aitcheson
  18. Potter
  19. Bear
  20. Kindel
  21. Nesbitt
  22. Klingsell
  23. Fiddler
  24. Nilson
  25. Boumedienne
  26. Ihs Wozniak
  27. McKinney
  28. Reschny
  29. Brzustewicz
  30. Lakovic

No Spence?

Mrtka pretty high, Blueston likes him a lot more than others.
Admittedly I do. If I just wanted to mirror everyone else’s list I wouldn’t spend time making my own.

I think after top 6 you have drop off. I like mrtka chance to become top 4 defenseman. Great size, think will be fine skater. Has some offensive instincts. Needs to put on weight, but that is typical. Think he ends up somewhere between Tyler Myers and dougie Hamilton on big rhd scale.

I am actually also much higher on Reid than most. I think Reid is great skater, strong offensive instincts, good stick, potential Josh Morrissey type. The concern is that at his size you have much lower floor, less margin for error. Mrtka is likely even worst case solid 3rd pairing guy. There are lots of guys who fit Reid profile who never hold jobs in nhl. I think he can and will, so even though I think he in some ways is highest (non injury related) risk in top half of first round, I believe in the talent.

In terms of injuries, I dropped bear bc of his injury. Concerned with lacerated Achilles he may lose a step. I still haven’t completely bought into McQueen either, as back injuries scare me.

The further we slide down the draft order, I would start thinking more seriously about Henry Brzustewicz from London. He's a RHD with good size and a spotless statistical profile buffed by playing on the best team in the OHL. He's the younger brother of Hunter, who has been a good find for Calgary, and the younger brother is very often the better of the two.

I see him ranked towards the end of the 1st on a lot of lists, but I think his positional value alone will make him a riser on draft day.

Do you like him better than Hensler?
