Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

Looking at potential trade up partners from 25 and unfortunately I don't see a lot of reason to do it from the likes of Columbus, Philly, or Calgary

The Habs have some cap issues so maybe they could be coaxed into it for a cap dump? Especially if they can guarantee they get whoever their guy is at 16 and have a lot of names they feel comfortable with at 17. Not sure who they would be looking to dump and if it makes sense for the Blackhawks though. I can't imagine they would be happy to part ways with Laine for example in that kind of move.

And obviously St Louis and Nashville aren't going to do it for anything close to fair value

Another factor- when do the Senators have to decide on keeping their pick or not? It's locked in at 21 in a pretty meh draft so I wonder if they consider giving it up this year and keeping next year's. That would effectively make the Leafs pick #24. Or, if they plan to give it up next year, are they willing to trade back four spots for a bit of extra capital a year earlier (Blackhawks' 3rd or Dallas 2nd, maybe?) Wouldn't want to do it blind like KD did last year but if the right name is on the board..?

The Sens have already declared that they're keeping the pick this year. They're going to forfeit next years pick.

Only a team's 1st rder is effected by playoff results .
The 2nd from Dallas will be pick 62, 63 or 64…

Dallas is the best team regular season record wise out of the four remaining…if the Oilers beat them the Hawks will receive the 62nd pick…best case scenario…if Winnipeg had beat Dallas, thr Toronto pick would have fallen one spot to 26th overall…as Toronto had a better regular season record…

Hawkscgoita add grit physicality size or average size who "play bog".

I do nkt understand the smirfxattractions.

Hages..just compare his freshman season to Celebrini or Fantill in their freshman year (only 2 season each)..

Hagens will not even have Leonard and Perrailtvto padchisxasistsxstats...paltry goL scorong...Even Potter beat hom in goals..

Freshman seasons:

Celebrini : age 17 all season 38GP 32g 32a
64vpts +25

Fantilli age 18 36GP 30g 35a 65pts +31

Hagens (1mo 17 ...rest of season 18)
37GP 11g 26a 37pts +21

Potter(Oc35Gp 13g 9a -1

t Nov Dec= 17;rest of season 18)

Not much size difference between Potter and Hagens ...Hagens 5'11 176 (otgerxrepirtsxsayv5'10.5) vs. 5'10 172 for Potter ..but Potter did not have the oriviledgex help Hagens got with B C (Leonard and Perraukt and a top #1,team in regular season.

Betcha potterxwoukdvhave had same or more assists if he pkayed with Leonard and Perraultvto pD tge assists stats.

Poi tbis HGens underwhelming.ed ina very privileged situation..

But bigger piibtbis both are shrimps.. HWks have enough small skilkex forwards..

Pass and Pass on both Hagebsxand Pirter.

Hagens does not belong in any top 3 when you see how far off he was from Celebrinni or Fantilli in impact in freshmen year .

Likely Hagens not even NHL ready to leave school..bitcwilkbe fascinating to see if he goes back to school what he does Leonardxand Perrault to help him.

The tier after Scaefer and Misa all have huge warts.. questions and concerns ...promise yes.. if they improve in some areas.
Except for Brady Martin...you knowwhat you get . A unique player in this draft checking so many boxes?
Who in this draft competes harder=Nobody.

Who in this draft hits harder and as often/=
few if any..

Shot=NHL pro shot..can pick corners ...hard 1tiner.

Shot efficiency (S%) lower than soneotger top candidates but still good at over 16% ..

Passing=ok others considered better but still quite good...maybe 6.5/10 whereas Misa and Martone maybe 7.5 and Obrien 8.0..

Forecheck=I do not think have seen anyone as relentless, cibsistent, and effective in hunting down pucks...wining battles...

Back check =very good..again the work and hustkevare evident.

Skating=I woukdcsay NHL average butcwhen you add in the hustle ,it doesn't matter. Ifcskatibgbiscnotvekite.. Itvis not slow.. But the Pace is very very hogh and consistent..

What good are fast guys ifvtheybonly bri g it in spurts and slack on sone shifts.
He never slacks.

Hitting= 10/10..Hischitscpunish the victims.. Sonetines geysxejecyionsvifvhitsxtoo late..butvtatgerchave this threat and physicality than just sone onlyvskikked finesse guy.

LEADERSHIP..itvisxabubdantkyvclear..hexwants to get the pucknorvgetvitvback...the compete off the charts leads by example how not to slack off..A team will getvibspired..

Yes imits that 1 guy lijevthis even though best player on hiscteam in the Soo ,cannot by hinself turn a bad team into acwinber ..But every time he gotvto pkay with better pkayers...Hlika Gretzky...OHL Top Orospects Chalkenge ,U18s, he just elevated and shone..

This kid is already a cannotmiss NHL PRO
.
..therecare hardkyvanyvwartsvor concerns..

You know exactly what he can do for a team.

A2 way C with uber compete and Physicality...or can use o thecwong..eother wY hw will lift and inspire a line ..Teach them what it takes..how to be hard on pucks...battle.But he has sone good skilksctoo and can score in a variety of ways.
Akso van screen and get deflection goals..Talescitvto the net...rushes up the midflevubafraid.

Who I their right minds would not take this guy vs.all the others at #3 with questions and aspects they mistvinprivevon.

Further IF you think as 1 scout recently stated inany artickevonNartin that he can get even better ...with proper training and skating coaching. I Think you may see hom emerge as the 2nd best forward of this draft when we look back i a few years and Maybe the best forward from this draft for pkayoffvimpactcwhen things get eve morevintense.

Hawks need this type of very high cobsisyentent compete...energy...pace...physicality to go along with offense he can produce and the goidctwo way game.

To me its shoukd beca no braiber.

He screams NHL impact Pro..

Misa will provablyboutcpiuntbhim but on the other hand Misa pulled a -16 over lsdt 10GP and Martin was +14 hisvlas10GP and outvlibted Misa to boot.

Kd shoukdvpick Martin and shock the draft ...It would not surprise me if Martin goesc5-8anyeay now..The riser momentum seems to be building on homafter u18s.

But when you add the questions and concerningbisduescofcalk thebotger candidates for#3, there justvover such a high floor for what Martin brings that any more improvement to a higher ceiling woukd becgreay...but what he can add is what the Hawks actualky Need to COzmPETE harder and better.

"play bog"

I love this intangible.... You can negate the opposition's speed
and transition game by slowing them down. Once you unleash
the bog....game over.

Makes the late 90's Devils trap look like McDavid after spending some time
with Tony Montana.

Crazy question and I hate the thought of it but ,,, If the Leaf's dealt Marner's right to the Blackhawk's would you give Leaf's their pick back to them (If he signed with us) . Picking 25 will be very interesting .
A player's rights are worth at most a late round pick, not a first round pick.

Once a player hits UFA, he'll only sign early if you are the team he wants to sign with anyway.

Not only was Rinzel picked at 25, he was picked using Toronto's 1st. Which basically means history has to repeat itself with this pick.
Hawks confirmed to pick next Pastrnak with Leafs pick e5...its definitely not a throwaway pick, more or less a freeroll at a high end player given what they gave up for the pick

I hope to god the Hawks do not trade up for Cullen Potter AKA another future bottom 6 buzz saw to pair with Oliver Moore. If the Hawks do trade up, I’d hope we could get someone like Reschny, Bear, or even Cootes. Those guys can play.

I think Blackhawks are better off to wait a year or two before investing any higher picks on Defenceman since it's pretty stacked and they dont have to sign .
Yeah I feel you, though Fiddler wouldn't hit Rockford for another 2 years... and there's definitely room to develop defensemen there, and RHD are always worth investing in. It's a valuable asset.

Bear and Cootes have a high likelihood of ending up bottom 6 buzzsaws.

Bear is much more highly coveted by the guys that make the big bucks. Bottom 6 is not their expectations of him.

Potter is the classic under sized speedy winger with low IQ you throw out there to get the energy back in the playoffs. An energy bottom 6 buzzsaw
