Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

I'll take Will Scouches rankings with 10lbs of salty saltines. His rankings are pretty absurd. I'm pretty sure he had Oliver Moore in his top 5 and Dalibor Dvorsky outside his 1st round. I also remember when he had Fabian Lysell at like 3rd oa in 2021. He has some very odd takes and most have not looked great.

Here are a couple other from last year that are much different from consensus and do not look great at the moment;

Alfons Freij #5 oa
Adam Jiricek #6 oa

Luchanko #29
Solberg #30
Sennecke #31
Jiricek is hot garbage . Yea seems like his video's are a waste of time spent.

I think its pretty real and a 3 team trade of rearranging draft order where everyone is happy between NYI, SJ, Chicago is doable. SJ goes to #1, Chicago #2, NYI #3..thinking like SJ 2nd rd pick to NYI and maybe Dallas 1st 2026 goes to Isles from Chicago. Biggest problem in NYI org is no one wants to sign or re-sign there. Hagens being talented and from that area certainly has a huge draw to that organization.
It seems they're having trouble finding a GM they like as well. Ownership could get involved and pick the marketable hometown kid.

That's overcomplicating it.

Islanders can take Hagens at 1.

Yeah…force their hand. I am good with a few options at 3…Desnoyers, then Martone/Frondell, then Hagens. No assets need be traded away.

If they take Hagens at 1, then we get Schaefer or Misa.

I mean i just don't see what everyone else does in Desnoyers, Frondell ect. If Misa or Schaefer is the Blackhawks top players at position use picks to get one of them. Its not like they need to continue to use tons of draft capital on players. They need to start landing standouts not volume

It is where we are at with this draft so nothing can be done about it. We dropped one now have to pick where we are. In 5 weeks we will have another good prospect to put into our ranks which is all we can ask.

Easier said than done. Teams want the best prospect at the top and later picks just add up to much. I do believe NYI would have been pushing hard to move up for Hagens had they stood pat and he slipped, so there's a chance they would consider themselves lucky to get assets in a move down for him. I don't think it's super likely, but stranger things have happened.

I would be fairly annoyed if Chicago traded significant assets to accommodate the NYIs desire to pick Hagens at 3.

Why are we doing them favors? If NYI trades back with someone in the 4-6 range, I'd pick Hagens to be a ^*%#.

Hagens is a very good prospect and if the islanders want to screw around and move back, I'd ensure they found out.

Is this really true? I hear Chris Peters mention it after the draft lottery and now everyone seems to have latched on to it as fact.

I know Tavares walked away from them but guys like Barzal, Lee, Palmeiri, Pageau, Cizikas, Pulock, Pelech, Mayfield etc. didn’t seem to have a problem signing extensions and staying there. Horvat was more than willing to accept a trade to the Island and sign a long-term extension. Do they occasionally have to pay more for FAs… sure, but that could just as easily be the by-product of being a mid/lower level team.

Could Hagens being a local kid have an increased level of attraction for the Islanders because he is from the area, perhaps but unless one of the Schaefer or Misa comes right out and says “I won’t play for the Islanders“ I think we Hawk fans better be prepared to embrace one of the many lower tier players that have been discussed. For the Islanders to by-pass players they may have more highly rated just to take the local kid would be incredibly stupid.

Winning the draft lottery is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Islanders will select what they consider the best asset for their franchise and the only potential star in this class, Schaefer.
I'd put my money on that too. The knock against Schaefer is his little amount of games played but there must be a reason he's the consensus #1. I can't think of a team who wouldn't need a great-skating, two-way D for the next 15 years.

The proposed deal is pretty basic. SJ and CHI each toss the Isles a late 1st/early 2nd to move up one spot each and the Isles still get the guy they want. If the Isles want JH, why wouldn't they do it? SJ would be insane not to do it IMO, and pretty easy yes from the Hawks based on the number of picks/prospects they have in the pipeline.

If I'm the Isles, much safer to just take Shaefer.

isle fans are insane. before the lottery they just wanted a chance to get hagens. now some islanders fans are proposing trades to get 1 3 and 4. its kinda funny.

Why would I give up a 1st round pick if I know NYI want Hagens? Tis confusion.

The only reason why Chicago would do this is to leap frog SJ for Schaefer. Id consider that for Schaefer but I'm not doing that for Misa.

Bad teams need all the lottery tickets they can get.

I'd prefer Misa over Martone/Desnoyer and DAL 1st. Small price to pay to get the best F prospect IMO.
