2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Chris peters on the CHGO podcast spoke of trading the 3rd for an immediate winger for Bedard.

Seemed like his is own speculation but based on the hypothetical of the Hawks finding none of these guys particularly impressive.
It's always possible.

But who has a good under 25 forward that they're just going to flip for 3rd overall?

You'd basically have to find a team that did what Chicago did when they traded DeBrincat.

With all the monster players being moved to bubble & playoff teams for picks plus okay prospects/players he's going to throw 3rd overall in the mix?

WTF, better be a damn beast. You can get a great winger for less, period.

That said, Hawks staff & Peters had about the same board rankings at the top last year with Peters being one of the people whom had Lev at 2 then Demi at 3. So it will be interesting to see his final ranking.

Ya, I have no idea.

Basically Svechnikov, byfield, maybe Eklund. I don’t know why any of those teams do that though

Eklund definiteky not. San Jose is in no position to trade away established young players.

Byfield I don’t think the Kings can. Kopitar is a million years old and they need Byfield to be the 1C when he’s gone. They have nothing behind him and Byfield is lacklustre. So he’s only available if they full on rebuild.

Svechnikov is underwhelming, but as long as Carolina is competing, he’s going nowhere. Their offense is already iffy, they can’t wait on a prospect.

Ya, I don’t get where this immediate help is coming from in exchange for the third. At least not young immediate help.

3OA for Laf + 12OA is the only thing I could maybe see

It depends if you feel like Laf and whoever you get at 12 is worth more than Martone. It's certainly worth more than Frondell...

It's the Strome picks I worry about the most. High ceiling "IQ" guys who can't figure out a damn thing about needing some semblance of a competitive game until they've been traded around a few times getting ice time based on pedigree alone. You don't ever want to draft a Strome at the top.

What team meets the following criteria?
1. Has a need for a high draft pick
2. Has a good, team controlled winger available
3. Wants to trade said winger away?

You could get Laf for Korchinski with the Rangers need at LD. I would prefer to keep 3OA.
I would prefer Martone to Laf. I just don't know if that's who Chicago is taking.

But yes Korch for Laf would be a nice move for them to make.

As down as people are on Laf, he was really good in last year's playoffs, and he's provide immediate help for Bedard while fitting within the timeline. I could see him potting 30 goals with Bedard.

I find it endearing that everyone wants to raid Chicago's cupboard.

Isle fan says,
"If rumors are true, Sharks want Schaefer and Chicago wants Misa. If we take Schaefer, Sharks probably take Misa. I think a very realistic proposal I would make if I was the Isles is the #1 to Chicago for #3 and Alex Vlasic. Chicago has multiple top dmen prospects. Then Chicago gets Misa, Sharks get Schaefer and we walk away with Hagens and Vlasic. Everybody happy. I would sign up for that now."
Hahaha very realistic

Desnoyers has to be the pick.An all around player that plays a complete game with an edge.Martone reminds me of a righthanded Strome.Offer up Korchinski and Toronto’s first and go fishing for another top 10 pick to take Martin. These two players would add grit/leadership and playoff toughness unlike any other Hawks prospects.Vansaghi in the second would be a nice add of size for the wing as well.
Caleb's stock is rising that is for sure.

Martone is more skilled than Misa. Flat out. I know he's not fast but like, damn he's 6'3. You can be a slow skater at that size and still be a star in the NHL if you learn to pick your spots and bigger kids typically take longer to grow into their frame anyways.

It's more the pacey-ness and lack of intensity that I worry about with Martone but out of all the issues a player could have I feel like that's the easiest to develop. Frondell doesnt really have any playmaking to his game, Hagens is another small skilled forward who constantly forces plays that leave shaking my head (side eye to Connor Bedard), Desnoyers's offense doesnt really project to the NHL at this moment is probably more of a 2C/3C and McQueen's career might be over before it starts.

Misa's atheticism and having a better shot at being a long term C still appeals to me slightly more I guess? But I think there's a reason HC chose to invite Martone to the WJC and not Misa.

Misa is undoubtedly the better prospect. And he fits this team better.

But Martone did well for himself in the CHL this year. He was good last year too. He can be a damn good player. He just comes with more risks than Misa.

Just stay at #3 and take who they like best. Don't see a team willing to trade for that pick while giving up young NHL players.

If you want help now, you take the later picks to trade for that player. Look at Buffalo and offer them the Leafs pick, our 2nd or whatever for Quinn OR Peterka.
Those are the Picks we can give up for those players and I'm sure there is a trade possible.
