2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Projecting the skill each has shown on-ice to date to the pros. What else would we base it on?
Your opinion on having Hagens so clearly ahead of guys like Desnoyers and Frondell is now a minority opinion among people whose job it is to watch these kids and project their skill to the pros. So you tell me

Show me the majority, because I still see Hagens top 4 in damn near every ranking whereas the others are largely on the outside looking in.

Button and Pronman look like the only two who have one of them over Hagens and they don't agree on which one that is. Meanwhile the majority of what I see still had Hagens top 3 or 4.

The Hawks picking 3rd ahead of two division rivals Utah at #4 and Nashville at #5 is a bit scary…whoever they pass on will be playing against them for years to come…similar to passing on Byram in favour of Dach…but the Avs did trade BB

It's a poll of 10 NHL scouts so not even just a matter of individual whims. Hagens is firmly in the same mix as Martone, Frondell and Desnoyers

Martone is very clearly better than Hagens, Frondell, and Desnoyers

I really don't see how you can justify passing on Martone

Yeah, so McKenzie's list that used 10 random scouts out of the hundreds in the league has Frondell ahead of Hagens after the latter spent the last couple years including just weeks ago as the better talent. Overanalysis. Using this as proof of anything means zip.

McKenzie's list is routinely the best look we get at how the league sees the draft ahead of time and one of the only rankings that is both a) a composite of several people's opinions, rather than just reflecting one scout's preferences and b) reflective of the opinions of people actually employed by NHL teams to scout draft eligible players. Discount it if you want I guess but I don't really know what else you'd ask for in this specific discussion

I don't even know what to do with the bolded. Rankings change over the course of the year, that isn't really something new

I think the 2 best fits for the Hawks at forward at#3 woukd be Caleb Desnoyers or Brady Martin.

We will discuss Desnoyers more as eyes will be on himnas Moncton keeps matching to a Q Championship run and on to the Memorial Cup..
As to Brady Martin...though he ranked ariubd 11ti early teens on many Kurt's,after hisxgreatvimoact and oerformace at the u18s...he passed tge eye test so much that Craig Buttin said do not be surprised if he goes top 5...

Right now Ivancobsideribg homforvourvpicj at #3..

Ratgerctgan me listing all tgexqualutiesche brings to the table...a very detailed profile analysis on hom you alk shoukd check out just cameviutctiday on The Win Column (thewincolumn.ca) ....search Google :The Win Column,Brady Martin NHL Draft Profike.

You read this and then you add it to your eye test from what you saw at thevu18s and thisvis exactly the kind of hockey player you want to the ice.

So much detail to like on this kid. for your to like about this kid.

Therexarexsinexareas lije mistvorospectsche could improve on...stride mechanics and skating posture...but he still showed okaty of soeed and goid puck transport on n rushes.

If you saw his goal scoribgbhoghlightscfron ohl ganes, scoutscwoukdxsay hechas a goidvorobshotvthat picks corners...But thisvprofike oiubtsvout that if he coukdcquicken his release and hit the net more on the Many chances he creates (averagesv6vshotscachane( hecwiukdvhaveca kit more goals.

Consider also that he pkayex for a team that was 7th in the Western Co ferenceof thecOHL ..and got knocked out in roubdvonebofvthevpkayoffs..He was a star on a bad team...unlike many of tgectop forwards ranked aheadvifvhom.

When you consider that fewvifcanyvbringvbettercworkbethicand relentless compete level plusvhevisctge best hitter in the draft..and you think of hom filling out his big board frame and gettibg even stronger...howvheccan absorb hits and remain on his skates ..abdvin and ob about other things he does si well, this kid has Got to be considered at #3..We have no prosoectbkijevhom in the system.

Je can pkay big minutesxand be used any situation.

Tgevpiintbtotalsvin the regular season wre justv72vin57GP ..but again he pkayed forcac7th place team homhos Co frrence.
He woukd have had a lot morevpiubtsvpjayongbona top team.

Drsnoyers on the other hand does pkay o rhevtop team I tge Q.

So I think you have to factor this into tge decision..

Martone has a lit more points ...but whikevhe is a true power forwardxwith puck sjikks,he lacks speed but more importantly his competevlevel is inconsistent..
His season took a downturn firxabout 6 weeks fronmid January thru end of February after a hot start (was keeping pace with Misa earlier ) ..Some scouts also called him lazy on sone games..A bit of a red flag issue to me.
When he applies s himself he can be very impactful..but if he no shows too much or on certain shifts of games...thatvis concerning.

He could be #3,but also could be #6 or worse.

I guess you have to believe in more upside IF he really "wants it"..but Hawks do not need guys coasting on talent alone. There has to be desire and compete.

Hahensvis justca bad fit..not another small forward...please KD!

Anyway ..read that article deep profiling Brady Martin.

He will be a top six pro in the NHL for along impactful career. He will tiktvthevice..Surrounded by goidvpkayer hecwill elevatevthem and the team compete level.

To me hevis one ofvthe mostvintriguing prospectscin this draft.
