2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Well Sharks fans seem to think we got screwed and we think they got screwed. Nice scrappy little rivalry at the bottom of the standings lol.

Our defense is here now though, so this pick had no bearing on next year because no one was playing in the NHL next year. They’re about to find out how far behind they really are. They have no one close to ready back there.

Nolan Patrick is the first one that comes to mind. There are a few others. I would say Shane Wright fits the mold, but his development path is very strange and he looked like a flat out bust a year ago or so.
I'm sure there is a list of guys that were mocked pretty high and fell down the board for one reason or another that met the previous expectations

Stylistically? I can get people saying we need size, here, but "stylistically" he fits what KD and Doneghey crave quite a bit. Dude can fly and has great edge work, tons of skill in his 5'11" frame. The fears of him being a perimeter player a bit overblown, but he doesn't have the edge we need in a top 6 F.

Misa, Martone and Hagens stand far ahead of Frondell or Desnoyers, IMO. I get people liking them, but including them seems a lot like overanalysis to me.
One of Hagens main issues is he doesn’t fly. His top end speed is below average for an undersized guy like him

I mean yeah, its hard to find closer comps. Timothy Liljegren and Aatu Raty were a couple others. Maybe even Kiviharju fits that category, but Hagens is a different situation than them because he has maintained as a top draft candidate. Hagens is still in that 2-6 range for me, but I dont think he stands out in that group

Haha screwed? It’s a lottery, this is what happens.

And he's not supremely dynamic, he doesn't have elite IQ.. he's quite good at these things but not high-end.
Well Hagens got 3 glaring issues combined with some high end qualities. He has a weak top speed, he has poor balance and strength, and he makes poor decisions with the puck. There’s a lot of really good in the skills, edge work, and offensive awareness without the puck (always in the right position). I still like him as a player and he belongs in the convo for 2nd best player in the draft, just not for the Hawks. We already have a lot of undersized players in the pipeline and roster.

Per Powers, he did not mention Hagens at all as an option the Hawks were looking at. Makes sense to me because stylistically he isn't a fit. We know Schaefer will be off the board by #3 and Misa is the most likely pick at #2 (but still possible).

If the options come down to Desnoyers, Martone, or Frondell, who would you guys like the Hawks to pick?
Martone then Desnoyers

Why would they do that? Seems pretty reasonable to let go of the Misa dream now and just focus on who is BPA between Martone/Hagens/Frondell/Desnoyers.

If Misa miraculously falls to three, then awesome.
Martone is very clearly better than Hagens, Frondell, and Desnoyers

I really don't see how you can justify passing on Martone

I am very much looking forward to the Athletics mock draft. They have an inside track and I bet they can atleast put together the top 3 from what theyve heard

Sharks board think they can get Rinzel and 3rdOA for 2OA.

2. I too think grier prefers martone. Misa doesnt match need. However, if he selects martone #2 over Misa, it will be one of the worst GM fails Ive ever seen. Chicago desperately wants Misa. So do like 4 other teams. Grier could easily move down for a nice package and still get martone, so picking him 2nd over misa would be nothing short of horrific asset management and would leave no less than a 1st or more on the table.

Personally, this draft shapes up perfectly now for an SJ/CHI swap for one of their top D prospects. Would chicago part with Rinzel to swap picks with the sharks and get their clear #1C? personally, I'd even be willing to add a sweetener for that deal (dallas 1st?)

imagine we walk away with martone and a 6'5 RHD who is totally NHL ready at age 21?? What a win that would be!!!
