2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

I read Misa is comparable to Tavares/Seguin.. Which is he
more like ? Thanks for all of your feedback. I love the pre- draft buzz
leading up to the draft.

Seguin is a better comp. No truly elite traits but significantly above average at just about everything

I want so bad for KD to make a big trade without trading our 2026 1st to get 2 of Frondell/Desnoyers/Misa and maybe Hagens if he falls. It’d be a huge addition to the core of our prospect pool. We have an abundance of prospects and picks, but not too many true blue chippers. It’d be worth it imo.

I would rather use those picks to trade for a younger guy from another team like Issac Howard or Alexis Lafreniere

7.45M cap hit for a soft perimeter playing winger who isn’t exactly great defensively and didn’t even hit 50 points.

Yeah, that’s an easy no for me on Lafreniere. He’s been bad basically 4 of his 5 years in the league.

Howard I’m all for and it makes too much sense for both sides to not do it.

ya I am not married to Lafreniere he is just a guy I could see being traded realistically. Howard trade should have already been done imo.

I was totally on the Martone train until the Under 20 World jr's . Misa or Schaeffer seem safe and Caleb Desnoyers even though he is a grade below. Misa and Schaeffer project as impact 1st line and top D pairing . Desnoyers seems like a real good 2 way Center / #2 Center (70points a year ). If Moncton makes it to the Memorial Cup and Caleb dominates he might jump into the conversation for #1 overall.

What were you expecting from him? He was given a very limited role.

Draft year players rarely make the team. Misa wasn't even invited.
yes I agree but it makes you wonder about his skating for the Nhl . Caleb just seems like more of a sure thing , even though the Q is a much weaker league than the OHL.

I think it was a square peg round hole situation for the role Martone was asked to play on that team. There are other players I like more in the draft but that showing isn't a great measuring stick for him

The skating is the big weakness for Martone, yeah.

I don't think it's a hurdle he'll overcome. I just think he'll circumvent the need for it with his elite IQ.

Desnoyers is a sure thing in that he has a high floor. The ceiling isn't there for what people expect out of a top 5 selection.

Powers mentioning Frondell and Desnoyers was very interesting. Wonder if those guys are options at 4? Or options at 3 too.

Martone not being mentioned stands out too. I really want an upside pick, and Martones upside is significant.

My personal top 5 - Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Hagens and Frondell.

As far as upside plays in the late first/early 2nd, Mason West is a 6'6" forward with great athletic tools out of Edina HS in MN. August birthday so one of the youngest players in the draft and very raw (as he's split attention between football and hockey) but with some flashes of skill on tape, and put up 9 points in 10 USHL games after his high school season ended. He has yet to commit to hockey over football but he's being recruited to a handful of Big Ten schools (ND, MSU, and Wisconsin) for hockey vs. a few MAC offers for football, and if you do get that guarantee, he could be a good one to put on a Rinzel path, let him ripen up for a few years and see what happens.

Hawks are well known for drafting out of the USHL/NTDP. Guys like Boisvert, Mustard, Misiak, Green. Here are a few names to watch out for in the late 1st-3rd;

NTDP

- Jack Murtagh, Winger

- Cole Mckinney, Center

- Conrad Fondrk, Winger

USHL

- Vaclav Nestrasil, Winger: Fast 6'5" forward that looks a little uncoordinated at times

- Ryker Lee, Winger: Smaller than average size, but the most skilled player to come out of the USHL this year.

- Mason Moe, Center: Power forward that impressed me with his compete. Decent puck skills, but still raw. Played high-school last year

- Adam Benak, Center/Wing: Competing with Ryker for most skilled player from the USHL. He is a small 5'7" forward.

- Mason West, Center: Huge center that played high-school most of the year. Extremely Raw, but has shot up central scouting's rankings.

- Cooper Simpson, Winger: Impressively fast forward that played high-school most of the year (49 goals 34 assists in 31 games). Came into the USHL at the end of the year and scored 7 goals 1 assist in 9 games. Mckegg has some good video on him.

- Ben Kevan, Winger: Skill player thats had a tough year. Haven't watched much of him, but he is still high on some rankings.

Considering what Caleb has done so far this season and in the playoff's , he seems like a 70 point 1B/2A Centerman . Pre Playoffs Misa seemed like the pick , now I'm not so sure that Misa is the better of the two player's . 2 post season's in a row Misa hasn't been that great while Caleb has been really good.

His numbers are similar what Hischier had in his draft year. Caleb has just better production in playoffs now. He had almost 20 points more than next best Wildcat in regular season and in playoffs he is clearly their best point producer atm. His ceiling might be better what people expect.

Powers mentioning Frondell and Desnoyers was very interesting. Wonder if those guys are options at 4? Or options at 3 too.

What did Powers actually write?

What were you expecting from him? He was given a very limited role.

And Canada was a mess all the way.
