2025 NHL Draft Thread

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
They still would be able to as teams are allowed two jumps and they are yet to have one yet due to dropping in 2023, being last in 2024, and likely last this year.

Either way the dream of a Misa Bedard McKenna top 6 would be goated
For some reason I thought they had jumped up once already. But yeah if that’s not the case, them jumping us this year would be of no help for next year.

But is Bedard a Generatuonal Talent?

His shot was supposed to be that..but poor defense, below average speed and size issue getting shoved off the puck or prevented from getting to the middle slot high danger area is all concerning..

Misa is at least an elite skater .. elkte speed..so no worry there ..plus his hockey I.Q. and good at so many parts of the game.. Maybe he would be the better 1C and either Bedard moves to wing or Bedard gets less checking attention and pressuring as just the 2C.

Yes Bedard has little talent to play with ..but he does not seem to be able ro create enough scoring chances either for his own shot to get on goal or for others to score with easy set ups.I think Misa with his peed and better size woould be harder for defenses to stop without taking a lotvof penalties...Bedard does not have seeningly yenoughv speed to cause the opps to haul him diwn...And just leaning on Bedard seemscenough to stop his attacks too often..
It is a problem.. Maybe Misa solves that by drawing the opps best checkers away from Bedard and his line or they put their top scoring line vs.MIsa to force him to defend..exceot he is a better defending C than Bedard so they could get caught as hevhetscavpuck and zips away for break-awayscorc2von1cs that we just do notvsee enough of fromBedard when ge attemots (poorly) to defend in his own zone?

With the newly acquired draft capital in the Jones trade our seconds this summer (and the one we probably will get from trading Donato) becomes more expendable.

Therefore, I would really like to try and move up into the top 15 and get someone that maybe falls a bit later than expected, ideally Victor Eklund.

We have enough depth prospects in our pool. We need to target players with more upside.

We all go gaga over acquiring extra first rounders...but maybe times an early pick in round two in the 33-49 rangevofcroubd 2 can provide gems better than many first rounders from 11-32 .
.if your scouts still out and bust onz top ten pick it really ready is a sdt-back to any re'build..but of you strike gold fron the ey to kate 40s of the 2nd roubd it really cpuld boost your team down the line.

Examples: sust ladt draft somehow igor Chernyshov is not picked I round one, but SJ grabbed him at first pick in the 2nd round at#33 which now looks lias he is torching the OHL since he only came to Sinai lsdtc15 games...Yes they put him on line 1 with Micael Misa but stl anyone can see hevisxa star in hiscown right and probably one of the best oro prospects to cone out of thec20w4cdraft given tge size and skill a d production level.
Kd coukd have taken hom earlier with ourc3rd pick in round one but went for Vaacker instead..VNCker is a goidvorospect bit Not on a pace that woukd project to a 166 point season if Chernyshov's scorongboace wss extrapolated to the same amount of games Lardid woukd play if he finishes uninjured in the remaining ohl regular season (he missed 2 games so could play 66 games...Chernyshov at hos current scoribgboace would be slightly behind Lardosvin goals but have 19 orx20bmore points due to higher assists pace. PLUS THAT pro size at 6'5abd iver 200lbs already..

Or look at the dynamic duo i lS...Jason Robertson and Roooe Hints...

How cobectge Hawjsxdo not hotvon2nd roubd forwardsxthat good that beconecNHL stRs lije them ?

So nice to think Hawks mist get first rounders..but hitting on early to mod 2nds is just as important.

If Haejs vaunted scouting deot. Keepz drafting bustsvor mediocrity, tgecre'build will last a lot longer than Hawks' fans could ever have imagined

We all get excited about acquiring extra first-round picks, but sometimes an early pick in round two (in the 33-49 range) can provide gems that are better than many first-round picks from 11-32.

If your scouts are still out and you bust on a top-ten pick, it can really set back a rebuild. But if you strike gold from the late 40s in the second round, it can really boost your team down the line.

Examples:

Just last draft, somehow Igor Chernyshov was not picked in round one, but San Jose grabbed him as the first pick in the second round at #33. Now, it looks like he’s torching the OHL after only 15 games with Sarnia. Yes, they put him on the first line with Micael Misa, but still, anyone can see he’s a star in his own right and probably one of the best OHL prospects to come out of the 2024 draft, given his size, skill, and production level.

The Hawks could have taken him earlier with their third pick in round one, but they went for Vanacker instead. Vanacker is a good prospect, but not on a pace that would project to a 166-point season if Chernyshov’s scoring pace was extrapolated to the same number of games that Vaacker would play if he finishes the OHL regular season uninjured. Chernyshov, at his current scoring pace, would be slightly behind Vaacker in goals but would have 19 or 20 more points due to his higher assist pace. Plus, he’s already 6'5" and over 200 lbs.

Or look at the dynamic duo in Dallas: Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz.

How come the Hawks don’t have second-round forwards that good, who become NHL stars like them?

It’s nice to think the Hawks must get first-rounders, but hitting on early to mid-second-round picks is just as important.

If the Hawks’ vaunted scouting department keeps drafting busts or mediocrity, the rebuild will last a lot longer than Hawks fans could ever have imagined.

They've been expendable this whole time.

Weak draft.

I'd be shocked if Kyle actually makes those picks.

You have to be HF50’s burner account. No way you’re able to decipher that without inside knowledge. 😉
