It sounds like Schaefer stood out a lot more than martone did today. My guess is it’s Hagen or Schaefer 1-2. Miss Martone 3-4. McQueen frondell eklund 5-7.

I like Martone, Misa and Hagens. I think they all have a better chance of being a top 6 forward than not. Saying that, Schaefer is on another level than them. We need top 6 forwards badly, but we need to pick him if we can.

from everything I have read about him recently. 6-2 and does not turn 18 over 8 months. elite skating, elite IQ and compete. plus size, hands, and physicality. when you are 17 months and 100 days and might be the best player at U20 that tells me he is probably going # 1. if the hawks end up with 1 they would have a few options. take him and know we are set on the LD for 10-15 years. you could look to move del mastro kaiser I suppose. I think allen is in front of him and could pay RD. better skater. you could also look to trade down 1-3 spots and pick up another high 1st assuming that he is clearly #1 by a good margin.

we jumped in the Bedard pick so we only have 1 more in the next 3 drafts.

Gotcha. I wouldn't have a clue to when that rule went into effect but for some reason I thought I had read we could jump up in 2 more drafts. I guess not.

edit: just found this in an article.

3. (Implemented starting in 2022) "No single team will be able to advance in the Draft order by reason of winning a Lottery Draw more than two (2) times in any five (5) year period." This limitation will not affect a Club’s ability to retain its presumptive Draft position in any Draft Lottery, nor would it preclude the possibility of the Club moving down in Draft Order to the extent other Clubs advance by reason of winning the Lottery Draws. For purposes of clarity, the limitation would attach to the team, not the specific pick.

Ideally they improve AND still finish with the worst record in the league. Which is possible as there are no new rebuilding teams and each current rebuilding team is better than they were last year.
