Sure, they have some org strength on d so it makes sense to deal from that position to address what they feel are org weaknesses.

I just thought the post was a bit hyperbolic.
I mean I guess. I just don't think there's enough evidence of a trend here. Different GM too.

Sure, there also isn't enough evidence that this new management knows dmen better then anyone either. That was sort of my point, but maybe I didn't convey it well enough.

Back on topic, I think it's clear their new GM has a clear idea on what he wants his team to look like and what he wants in players. As a result he is aggressively moving out players that maybe don't fit that template for players that do (even if they are highly talented ones). We shall see how successful that is over the next few years.

Literally no way to determine this right now. Gauthier hasn't played a single pro game. Drysdale has barely played for the last two years.

I think Verbeek, coming from Detroit, has a similar mentality in what he likes out of a player. (200 ft forwards who are hard to play against) Gauthier fits what he likes, so good for him capitalizing.

That said, Philly was in a really shitty situation having a recent 5OA pick jerking them around. The fact that they came out of it with a recent 6OA and an added 2nd rounder isn't bad. People dragging that trade for Philly should really look into the Adam Fox situation and the minimal value he had. Granted, Fox didn't have the draft pedigree Gauthier does.

Fox had minimal value probably also because he wanted to play for one team.

Philly. They got rid of a player who didn't want to play for them, and Anaheim had to give up a player they probably wouldn't have given up otherwise.

Why not just say “ask again in 3 years?” ?

I voted Philly just because how can you lose if you get a great young defender for a player that doesn't want to play for your team? I mean the only way Philly can lose is if they held on to his rights until he was free to sign with anyone?

I feel like this is a deal that Anaheim would do 10/10 times, while Philly only pulled the trigger due to Gauthier not wanting to play for them

The Anaheim pick might end up as the best player lol

Might happen. In fact everything might happen, including that pick will turn out to be new Gretzky, and both involved players soon will suffer career ending injuries. But, given how 2nd round picks usually pans out, it's very unlikely scenario.

Philly by a large margin at the time of the trade. Even if Cutter ends up being the better player, there is too much risk in trading for power forward prospects. Few make a solid transition to the NHL even after having solid WJC performances.

That’s prob a good point…. I don’t think Philly entertains this trade if gauthier wanted to play there

Drysdale only played 24 of 42 games for Philly due to injury, and was horrible defensively when he did play. Anaheim won this trade easily.

If the Flyers offered the Ducks Drysdale + their 2nd back for Gauthier, Verbeek would laugh his head off.

Wild that the votes show that the early reaction was the Flyers won. I can’t imagine many people would take that position just a few months later.

I'm not convinced Gauthier will be the star he thinks he is, but I'm pretty sure Drysdale will just be forgotten in a few years.

Flyers should've called Gauthier's bluff, and let him sit.

Anaheim won. Drysdale is not gonna last in this league. Gauthier might not be a star but he'll be a serviceable player for a decade.

Man Drysdale was so hyped up
Honestly, watching his highlights, he just looks like a player who should be good at hockey. If I were to convince someone that hockey is a gorgeous sport, I'd show them clips of Drysdale's skating.

Had the flow going too.

Shame about the whole "actual point of the game is to outscore the opposition" thing.

Drysdale sucks at actual defense. He should give forward a try, honestly. But gauthier isn't looking like a star. Who knows, maybe the player the flyers select with the early Anaheim 2nd rounder they got will end up as the best piece in this deal :tinker:

Gotta see where cuts is at past his rookie season. He might develop into a stud or a fourth line grinder, who knows
I'd say the way he plays he's a safe bet to be a second liner at worst.

First line sniper? Not so certain but people sure are quick to dismiss the possibility that he could be a star not even at the halfway point of his first full 82 games..

I was high on Gauthier out of the draft and even though he hasn’t blown away this year like I thought he would, I definitely expect him to figure it out more than I trust Drysdale to figure it out.

With the benefit of knowing future moves, it seems like Anaheim really wanted to turn over their entire starting 6.
