I know it’s only December, but there’s almost no chance this team isn’t picking top 5, right?

Kinda surprised some are so down on the top forward group. I really like Hagens, Misa and Martone. McQueen too but he’s a bit of a wildcard right now.

So they're guaranteed top 5 at worst if they finish 2nd to last.... just glancing at the standings and Montreal is the only team I think is truly on par with how dreadful Chicago is.

San Jose looks much improved. Hard to see Nashville continuing to be absolute bottom of the league bad all year.

Maybe Ottawa joins us in the race for the bottom if Tkachuk and another piece are moved out... But even then, they have much better players than we do.

Even if the Hawks didn't move anyone out at the TDL like Murphy, Donato, etc it's hard to see them finishing any better than 2nd to last.

Guaranteed top 5. This team is atrocious.
Hagens isn’t the consensus #1?
Nope.

He could still go #1 or #2, but he just hasn't been scoring.

He's played a lot of games with Perreault and Leonard, and has mooched assists off them, but there's zero chemistry there.

I'm slightly concerned that the team will actually get better when they replace all of their deadline movers with prospects.

That said, if Murphy doesn't go at the deadline, I wouldn't be all that disappointed. If you can get any first for him, even with retention, then fine send him out. I also saw that graphic about how slow he is but he's been effective and having another veteran right shot D going into next season with all of the kids here would be stabilizing for them. And that's assuming he doesn't get hurt again.

Yeah they can sign someone else but he's the longest tenured Blackhawk and I think his presence in the locker room means something and will continue to as the prospects come and I don't love the fact of having too many inexperienced defensemen on the roster at the same time.

Dach and Nazar are the only guys I can see being called up and making a positive difference. I have high hopes for both, but I don't see either being huge needle movers from a standings perspective as rookies.

I kind of wish they would call up Dach now and see if maybe he can mesh with Bedard. What do they have to lose? If it doesn't work and he's not ready just send him back to Rockford.

You're probably right but don't sleep on Slaggert, Savoie, Korchinski, or Del Mastro.

Yeah, Slaggert is a good call. I liked him in his few games last year. Definitely would like to see him called up again if he earns it.

With Jones not returning for a few more weeks I'm basically considering him Murphy's replacement in my mind if he does get dealt.

I just don't see them making much room for KK or EDM this year unless someone gets injured.

Dachs biggest issue has been consistently. Giving him a call up and, oh see if it works or not you go back down... is the worst direction to go with that situation. He just needs at least half the year sticking to what is working now

On second thought, waiting until February might make more sense. If he's still playing well they'd be about 40+ games into their season and if gives them extra practices to build some chemistry before suiting up in an NHL game.

I think Ottawa will finish higher by the end of the year and I can't see Tkachuk being moved unless there is serious chemistry issue going on which I don't see at my end ( I live just outside Ottawa ). That said I think our chances of picking top 3 is very good, very good indeed. Let's hold for getting the 1st OA without moving up and then again for 26 moving up to #1 and landing McKenna! Now that would be sweet!

I had a feeling I'd see a potential post of the Hawks getting McKenna. Can we not do that yet?

Misa-Nazar-Bedard line in 2025??
While exciting, that might break the record of most goals allowed for a line in a season.

Maybe, but you don’t really need your first line to be a shut down line. You need them to score, a lot. That’s a line that could score.

Misa seems to be getting praise for two-way play so he at least seems to be willing to play with some defensive responsibility.

Also, just curious, what exactly was the joke with your post on the main trade board? I get you were trying to make a joke, but what was the punchline supposed to be?

The idea of a line with 3 players all under 21 with 2 of them to be undersized, no matter how talented they are, scares me defensively. But yeah definitely a lot of goals.

There wasn't really a punch line. I just thought the idea of an incredibly detailed rationale for a completely absurd trade would be funny.

EDIT: And I was curious to see if people would discover I was kidding or not. But it got locked before it could get there. For those wondering, I proposed the idea of trading Bedard to the Red Wings for Patrick Kane.

I honestly don’t want the Hawks to end up with 1 OA, I think there is a good chance that at the end of the day you get someone at 2 through 5 who ends up being the best player in this draft. As much as some here may not want to think about it, it would suck to miss out on McKenna because the Hawks pick first in June 2025.

If they finish last they aren't advancing in this years lotto so they could win next year still.

Interesting to me that Hockey Canada invited Martone and Schaefer (and McKenna) to the WJC evaluation and not top 9 picks in the last draft Senneke (#3), Iginila (#6), Yakemchuk (#7), and Parkekh.
