HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Pronman has us taking Carter Bear (16) and Jackson Smith (17) in his latest mock. This was with Carbonneau, Lakovic, and Hensler still on the board.

For a reminder Wheeler had us taking Lakovic and Cameron Reid.
Reid would be one of the worst picks at 16/17 for me. A small soft defensive D? No thanks. The only thing that justifies taking a small defenseman is supreme offensive ability and skating. This guy has neither, being just “not bad” in those areas. He reminds me of Cam York, but with slightly lesser offensive skills. This is the last type of player MTL needs. Wheeler’s takes are always cracked. Then again, Pronman having us take Jackson Smith makes no sense either - we’ve got Hutson and Guhle on the left side for years to come, and Smith isn’t a BPA, “can’t miss” type of talent. Just dumb.

A long article on Aitcheson from february, for those who might not be too familiar with the kid. I don't remember if I posted it or not back then. He definitely checks the ''intangibles'' box. Him and Martin just ooze work ethic.

would love to get those 2.

I like it

Aitcheson and Spence would be a homerun imo, i have a feeling both are gonna go around #10 tho, Aitcheson in particular is gonna go way higher than expected most likely

Hensler, Spence, Reschny, Fiddler, Bear, McQueen, Aitcheson, Lakovic, even Zonnon. There are so many interesting prospects if we want to take 2 swings here. I'm only trading if its for an established young 2C, or Crosby, otherwise I think there's great pieces that could be helpful to winning a cup in this range.

I don't believe that

When we see a unanimous list of mid first round players across all scouts, teams, and public lists.. then we can say there's clear BPAs at that point in a draft class.

BPA gets extremely more difficult to ascertain the deeper into a draft you get.. and the BPA debate gets heated earlier in more shallow drafts.
