HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Who would you have taken at 5 if Colombus took Demidov at 4?

Dickinson.

It wouldn't have been ideal because of handedness and us having already many D prospects, but he would have been BPA.

The fact that he fell to #11 is stupendous luck for the Sharks, same thing for Buium at #12 for Minnesota.

Some teams in the top-10 massively messed-up in my opinion.

Even before the injury, I had Cayden Lindstrom at the tail-end of my top-10 (I think #9 mid-season edition or something like that, Iginla and Catton ended up ranking higher than him in final list) as I liked his physical potential and some of his toolset, but his play selection seemed both poor and predictable to me and I didn't like his playmaking ability, nor Lindstrom's goalscoring instincts (getting into position, setting screens, etc.).

And I especially didn't like that Lindstrom seemed to "abuse" his size advantage in the CHL for much of his production and offensive flashes.

Seriously, go watch footage of Lindstrom's in his draft year trying to retain possession along the boards or the net, extending plays that he would often end up capitalizing on.

If Lindstrom had proper technique, body positioning, and "engage tactics" when battling for possession, it would be a non-issue for me. But since he's all over the place on those issues, and unbelievably "raw" there too, he had to depend on physical gifts a good chunk of the time when battling, got "crunched" or hit awkwardly many more times than a guy like Iginla (with GREAT puck-protection technique) ever did when doing the same thing.

And I won't say that the lack of proper technique when battling for the puck is why Lindstrom specifically got his herniated disk, but it is definitely part of the reason why in my opinion.

After Lindstrom, I also think Yakemchuk shouldn't have been the second defenseman taken.

And that both Berkly Catton and Tij Iginla are nice players, but that the Utah Mammoth and Seattle Kraken should have both opted for the higher-end defensemen available instead.

They had holes to fill though, and I can understand their rationale. I don't agree with it, but I understand.

We already stacked on left D. I don't know Lindstrom well but was high on Yakemchuk. Odd his numbers slipped this year.

The Canadiens Should Keep An Eye on Jonathan Fauchon

The Canadiens should consider signing (AHL or drafted him in the sixth, seventh round) left-handed center Jonathan Fauchon . He finished first in the QMJHL in scoring and first in faceoffs.

We should just try to do whatever we can to get into the late 1st to draft Ryabkin.

Yeah, there's red flags.. but he's got a lot of nasty to his game, he's got top 6 skills. Maybe getting him in the same system as Demidov might change that work ethic.

It's one of those crops where I don't feel that our 2 second rounders will have any less of a chance of turning into pro players of some use then the 2 first rounders will. As much as I'm a draft/prospect nut, this is a prime year for a big trade.

small, ave skating/speed, looks like a great junior player though.
Way under appreciated, the guy is one of the best face off player in the draft, one of the most complete forward, he has produced at every level and he is the leader and best player of his team by wide margin as a 17 years old. I remember people saying the exact samething for Nick Suzuki in his draft year. Too slow, not big enough, will never make it. Reschny has NHL talent and this is the most important, his skating is not even bad, he is not a burner but he his skating won't hold him back. He has some things to correct in his game but his offensive flair, vision and shot are all in the upper tier of this draft class.
At 16 or 17overall you rarely draft the finished product but with Reschny at least you know he has the talent to play in the NHL. He has things to correct in his game but that is part of the development team and him to correct them.

his size and skating/speed will hold him back if he doesn't improve there.
