HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Allrighty ,, my hope for the draft
We've all seen player drop in the draft ,, look at Parekh and Buium last year

#16 : Brady Martin/O'Brien/McQueen
#24 : Ivan Ryabkin (might take a drop to #24 and still grab him and get a late 2nd)
#41 : Ryker Lee
#49 : Vaclav Nestrasil
#45 : Haoxi Wang (from PHI trade to drop to #24)

This would be my Draft
And whoever is saying Ryabkin is not worth a #24 ,, well fuuck yeah he is. just look at him since he came in USHL.

Nestrasil is gonna go round 1.. and why are we burning a pick on the chinese kid who can't produce in the OHL?

Chiness people far away like this put 120% on their discipline, the size and the will is there.
I would take a chance, and it's not just about points btw.
Look at Vlasic in Chicago

How i hoped we tanked for 1 more year and picked up a top C to the core and added a real coach in the summer.
But Obviously Suzuki has to swing his big old wang around and force this team into the playoffs.
Hope we move up in the draft.
I get you, but those 5 playoffs games will be more impactful for the future of the team then picking 5-6 spots earlier. We were not a lottery team this year anyway.

Making the playoffs gave the core guys meaningful experience while exposing the team’s weaknesses which will need to be adressed. Both the good and the bad are extremely enriching if we want to contend.

Maybe it was one season too soon, but you can’t be mad they made the playoffs.

Why is Ryabkin dropping that far ? I heard attitude problems but to be almost out of the 1st round? he was supposed to be a top 5 pick, should we take a gamble on him at 17th? Or if he drops after 25th package both our 2nd to move back up in the 1st

He's a headcase on and off the ice.

Showed up out of shape at the Dynamo Moscow camp, then acted entitled when he was sent down to the MHL, and his VHL showing was lazy.

With Muskegon, sometimes you see great things but more often plenty of the same laziness that he's shown in Russia. And then there are shifts where he just simply lacks any discipline. He's got the two very worst iso-tape viewings on my list this season.

I get the appeal of the toolset but he reminds me too much of Kirill Kabanov; all skills, no brain.

Also he really doesn't fit what the Habs are trying to build, imo.

DND for me.

Your absolutely right. Making the playoffs is more important. Worse case scenario would have been just out the playoffs.

What about Carter Amico in the 2nd round ? I would take a big physical RD
I like him quite a bit and I believe he would've been a mid to late 1st if it wasn't for his injury.

Smooth skater who is great at breaking up plays via aggressive gap control and hits. Offensively limited but is still solid on the breakout and as a puck mover. Decision making can be iffy at times but there are many more good shifts than bad ones.

Another in the same mold (though as a lefty) that I really like and who I think is seriously overlooked is Jacob Rombach.

Some pre-final rankings stuff from Bobby Mac.

Interesting that Bear moved up two spots even though he hasn't played since the mid-term rankings. Apparently NHL teams don't think his injury prognosis is overly serious and it probably says a lot about what NHL teams think about the depth this draft.

Seems to be the word, yeah. He's one of my favorites, so I'm real happy to hear it.

a few weeks ago i watched some shift by shift videos (good resource: Prospect Shifts ) of a few forwards who are above our range and in our range. my initial ranking:

Martin
O'Brien
Bear
Spence
Carbonneau
Kindel
Lakovic

loved the first three guys. i know that young athletes heal pretty well from achilles injuries but i'd rather give up an asset to trade up and get Martin than gamble on Bear. but i'd take Bear before the other Fs i have ranked after him, by quite a bit.

Spence was interesting but looked to lack the creativity of a top 6 F.

Carbonneau i think will be an NHLer. he has the size, the shot, and can put together some interesting shifts. if we keep both picks i'd take a shot at him.

Kindel, to me, looks like a junior hockey player. don't think his game translates. the announcers did say that the game i watched was the first one back from a long road trip, but i didn't love his game. skilled but disengaged.

again, just one game, but to me Lakovic doesn't seem interested in adding elements to his game that complement his size. he didn't engage with his body and often turned away from contact. his stick is good but he reminds me unfavourably of Kotkaniemi at the same age. a less talented Benoit Pouliot.

a few names have recently popped up on the radar that i haven't had the chance to check out: Cootes, Reschny and Murtagh.
probably going to check out some of the D at some point. seeing how far Buuium fell last year in a draft that was supposedly stacked at D, i'm sure some highly rated D will make their way to our pick.

Blake Fiddler (D, R, 6’4″, 210, Edmonton Oil Kings, 07/09/2007)

Blake Fiddler is a physically imposing, mobile, two-way defenseman with significant pro potential. His size, skating, and physical presence make him a true National League prospect.. Fiddler’s future lies in his defensive game, particularly his ability to stifle rushes, protect the net-front, and deliver crisp breakout passes when given time and space. Offensively, he must improve his decision-making under pressure, puck-handling and first-touch consistency, and offensive execution to fully realize his potential as a top-pairing NHL defenseman.

WHL: Blake Fiddler - Neutral Zone - Men's

Lakovic is a no-go for me where we're drafting. We need dog and he doesn't have it.

Carbonneau is talented no doubt, but he has worrying hockey IQ. Feels like his upside is an Armia-type bottom 6 possession winger who can pull off the occasional highlight goal.

I get the concerns with Kindel, but he's a very smart player. Would like to see him go the Point route and hire Barb, feels like he'd unlock a new level doing so.

Because he isn’t that good. I wouldn’t go near him with our current 1st round picks. He severely underperformed this year relative to expectations, and seems to be on a downward trajectory. And that’s all just the on ice stuff.
