HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

There's a top 7: Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Desnoyers, Hagens, Frondell & Eklund. Schaefer & Misa are the consensus top 2 picks.

After that there appears to be a 2nd group 8-15.

8-15: players are: Mrtka, Smith, O'Brien, Martin, Carbonneau, McQueen, Aitcheson, Bear.

It's supposed to drop after 15.
This is sort of how I see it too with my limited viewing and following.

The flames pick seems to be very likely in the 14-16 range. I'd really like to see the Flames drop to the 14th instead of being 16th, because with that drop with around 15 it could be a fairly big difference in the quality of prospect we get with that pick.

As for our own pick, still much to be determined!

If we use both 1st round picks, I'd like to see a high-compete/physical type forward with some skill (Martin), and a two-way RHD (Fiddler?). My gut tells me that we are going to be using one of those picks in a trade for a 2C though.

Carbonneau would be a good eventual replacement for Laine in his PP spot. Right handed shot with a bomb.
its already hard to find someone in the nhl with a shot like Laine, thats very hopeful, I say that but never seen carbonneau's shot, still, if he had somewhat of a shot worth looking at I think I would have heard about it before, besides, you're thinking about droping our big PP guy?

Whoever they pick in the middle of the first round won't be here for another 2-3 years at the earliest. Laine is not guaranteed to be here after his contract ends next year.

true but I dont think he wants any place else if not finland from now on, he's had bad experience everywhere else but here, im speculating, so im hopeful he will reach an agreement for much less

Seeing Tankaton giving us Malcolm Spence and Justin Carbonneau. Seems like good picks at 16-17 right ?

If we draft mid first I’d really like to draft a middle 6 forward who’s gritty and can be a good energy complimentary player on the 2nd-3rd line. Seems like Spence

Spence has had signifiant IQ issues in all my viewings and Carbonneau is probably the most flawed player projected top 20.

I've got a very short list of fowards Im interested in.

Frondell
Misa
Martone
Hagens
Eklund
Lakovic
Desnoyers
McQueen
Bear

After that, they all have something bothering me and I would rather trade the picks.

What about O’Brien?

I'd be a bit surprised. Unless they think he's a legit top 6er.. but I see them more going the Martin/Cootes route with Fiddler/Hensler. Of course a trade changes everything.

I think that they'd rather go the Lynden Lakovic way myself instead.

Lakovic has sky-high physical potential considering he's already 6'3/6'4, skates well for a guy his size, and weighs only about 185-190 pounds right now so there's room for tons of growth and strength (20+ pounds of muscle over several years).

Then you look at Lakovic's skill with the puck, how versatile he is offensively, how well he sees the ice and manages to make plays, and how he shoots very well from multiple positions on the ice. Then we start looking at Lakovic's very good production on an offensively-deprived Moose Jaw team, and he starts looking really, really interesting as a prospect.

The problems with Lakovic would be a certain lack of work ethic, too much softness/not enough intensity on the ice for a guy his size, a defensive game that isn't mature at all at this point in time, and the unfortunate injury that interrupted his season.

So yeah, there are definitely negatives there but I think that the Canadiens at this point of the rebuild need to look at players with high-end potential, which would be true of Lakovic.

I have nothing against Braeden Cootes, Brady Martin, Logan Hensler, and Blake Fiddler, but at this point in time I think they are "safer" picks, floor-type of picks that the Canadiens should look at in later rounds rather than use high picks on guys like that.

I say that, but I fully expect at least one if not both first-round picks to be traded. So maybe this will turn out to have been a completely moot point by the time the Draft comes around.

Anyways, cheers and have a good night.

What do you guys think of Ivan Ryabkin, was top 5-10 1 year ago. He left Russia and was PPG in the USHL. A friend for Demi
I would expect a better production in the USHL personnally. To be only PPG isnt really excitting. As exemple, Micheal Hage got 75 pts in 54 games.. Ryabkin is a late first round pick, 2nd rd imo

Lakovic or Bear can be still there at CGY pick? Who likely be in 14-16 range at this point.

I really like these both forwards.
I think they gonna be pick earlier... like 10th to 15th position. More Im looking the draft, more I find it really not deep honestly... I wouldnt mind to trade our first round pick for immediately help. Like. After the 15th pick, we are in the range of middle line forward already. This is not really excitting if we compare at last year when Zeev Buium could be in the top 5 this year.

I think Bear will probably be there at 15 or so. I think he goes 15-25.

Lakovic there's a 50/50 chance he lasts until the 15th pick. It depends on the teams that draft ahead of us. I think he eventually goes 10-20.
