HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

I have this strange feeling we are winning one of the lottery spots.

Habs are closer to 8 than they are to 15. They have the 11th pick as of today.

I haven’t been following this years prospects too much because I knew we’d pick in no man’s land…but it looks like we need to aim for this years faller…a Caufield or a Buium.

We're only 5 pts up on 5th place Anaheim. A top 5 pick is still do-able.

Realistically, WC2 in West is already down to Vancouver or Calgary. We obviously want Calgary to miss.

If they do, we need two of Detroit, NYI or Boston to stay better than Calgary pushing Calgary to 14th spot. A top 15 pick. If they get picks 16-18, we can probably use our other picks to move up into 10-12 range.

I'm also no longer against taking a LD, especially with Guhle's gruesome injury. BPA.

I agree. A LD must not be ignored regardless of the organization's perceived depth. Guhle is trending to be this generation's Benny Brunet.

I’d take a late round swing on Ignat Lutfullin. Former teammate of Demi who is now an overager, decently fast with an excellent motor, seems to never stop working. He is still producing very well without Demidov in the MHL.

I see some lists and I do not understand how Carter Bear isn't a top 10 player. I mean...seriously? Any team that let him pass a top 10 pick is an idiot.

Couple of OHL 1st rounders went head to head tonight with Brantford’s Jake O’Brien visiting Brady Martin and the Soo Greyhounds.

Brantford 6 Soo 4

O’Brien finished with two assists
Martin had a goal and two helpers

Martin was the most dangerous Hound as usual and dished a couple of big hits and was 3rd star.

O’Brien was on, and played his best in the first 30, turning in superb PK work.

I like both of these guys. O’Brien for 2nd C ‘insurance’ for Habs and Martin for the clean-but-tough all-round game.

His goal was on an excellent snapper.

I think top13 protection is just Rangers saying they need to improve with JTM. Currently, they sit at 12.

Desnoyers is a center with the will to always improve his play.

Martone will not be drafted in the Top 3.

Sure. But those 2 guys are likely the exception, not the rule. At the end of Savard and during the Houle era the Habs picked lots of guys who had everything else but lacked skating and they mostly all busted and nobody was a really good player. See Mark Pederson, Terry Ryan, Eric Chouinard, Jason Ward.

Fine with taking a flyer with a late 1st or in later rounds , like Jason Robertson at 39thOA, but unless it's a goalie I'm not using a top 10 pick on a bad skater. Game is played on the ice.

I really like both of those guys. Would be great targets, around 9-10 for O'Brien and a little later for Martin.

It'll be PLD vs Puljujarvi all over again, we'll have a deal in place for 5 and get sniped.

Pederson, Ryan, Chouinard, Ward didn't have anywhere close to the pre-draft pedigree Martone has. He was huge in Canada's WU18 championship last spring and made the Team Canada WJC team in his draft year. He's also ranked anywhere from 2-4 on just about every public draft ranking.

Back when the Habs held their rookie camp in Verdun I remember that's where I got my first look at Pederson and I couldn't believe that was our first round pick. The guy could barely skate.
