2025 NHL Draft: Lose a ton for Porter Martone

I think Blackwood is likely gone by the trade deadline unless A. He’s down to stay for a couple of seasons even with the chance he’d become a backup, B. We’re in a playoff spot.

Vanacek has been pretty good too and if Blackwood can yield a 2nd or a B-prospect or something, I think I’d rather take that. He’s been great though.
One of black and vanny will almost surely be moved, even if we are in the PO spot. Askarov is ready and no reason to block him if they can get any return.

p.s.: Sad that Wedgewood had such a great COL debut. I realllly hope he shits the bed soon too so COL has to come begging. a '26 1st (or '25 2nd and 4th) and Gieorgiev (cap dump) for blackwood would be a respectable play.

I think there's a good argument for Ceci coming back. He gets important minutes here and plays higher in the rotation than he would on almost any other team. I'm sure Grier will have a conversation with him at some point to gauge his interest in returning before deciding whether to trade or not, but I'd lean on the side of keeping him if he wants to stay.

With Blackwood, he knows he's heading for a backup role here sooner or later, so it's probably best to get what you can while you can.

If they keep winning like this, Granlund may want to stay.
There's an argument for it because he's a cromulent enough RD and those are usually hard enough to acquire, but I want to see more before I make that call; there are enough moments with Ceci where I'm left sort of unimpressed by his defending or decision-making.

But that might just being tough on him because Walman looks so good as the dominant half of that pairing. If Walman regresses, then does Ceci end up looking more exposed?

The way I figure, he's good enough to be a bottom pairing defenseman at worst, so he's fine to have going forward. Our problem is really not that he's on the roster at all, it's that we don't have good enough guys at the top. If we get some better RHD, I'm not too fussed about which of Ceci, Liljegren, or Thompson ends up claiming the other two spots. Each guy has their good points and bad and none are perfect. And worst case scenario, we can always move him later if we have three guys better than him on the right side so long as we don't overpay him.

Yep I feel the real contenders we will be battling for the 32/31 spot to guarantee a top 4 pick will be Chicago, Montreal (hopefully when Laine returns they will rise), maybe Columbus/Philly. But if Granlund does get traded, I think that would pretty much guarantee we get that top 4 pick at minimum.
Gogo Montreal + Laine! There is hope they use his return as a spark and continue to rack up some wins here

Yeah, but at the time I thought he was a fake goalie that my wacky subconscious cooked up. So technically, I dreamed him into existence.

Well then dream us up a 6'6 silky smooth skating RHD with the meanness of Pronger and the offensive capabilities of Karlsson to also draft in the 2nd round.

Pick a cool name like Ebenezer Brute or something.

Nice video on Misa, for my current preferences for the Sharks I have it Schaefer/Hagens/Misa/Martone but I feel you can interchange #2-4, but I firmly believe if the Sharks get the #1 pick it will be Schaefer. Going to be super exciting watching the WJC to see how they all look, unfortunately Misa was not invited.

That’s pretty wild. Pretty elite offensive talent for a two-way defenseman. Think this guy is pretty much good enough to end the rebuild- Celebrini, Schaefer, Smith, Askarov, Eklund, BDE would be enough of a core. Not sure that he gets past #1 though the other primary contenders seems to need a center more (Montreal, Chicago, Nash). Ottawa and Anaheim may prefer a dman.

Our only hope is that a lot of the teams around us need forwards desperately. Chicago needs someone to play with Bedard and Nashville has never had a real #1C in the entire history of the franchise.

Hopefully MTL is buying the Hutson hype, but I think they and Anaheim are the biggest threats. If Buffalo, Ottawa, or Detroit collapsed think they’d go forward as well. Nashville are desperate for a center. Give Hagens or Misa two of Forsberg, Marchessault, and Stamkos and they may look like a playoff team.

Seattle and Philly I think go forward, Utah dman, but those three seem like BPA types.

If you could guarantee we win this lottery in exchange for guaranteeing we wouldn’t win either of the next two; I think I’d take it.

Opposed to my Granlund/Blackwood post, the best thing we’d get out of trading those 2 is that it would push the sharks down in the standings. Given we have Askarov, maybe Blackwood and Ceci out, Granny extended

Damn. Sign me up. Having Dickinson and Schaefer down the left side would be insane.

I think Detroit and Buffalo would both go forward too (Hagens/Misa and Martone respectively), but Ottawa should go Schaefer (but may not because Ottawa).

Unfortunately Schaefer seems to be playing himself into undeniable BPA position. I was really hoping he didn't make the WJC team so people would stop talking about him.

Ottawa has Sanderson, Yakemchuk, Chabot, Zub, and Kleven vs. Stuzzle, Tkachuk, Pinto, Bratherson and Norris. Think they could go BPA but as they lost next years first for Dadonov, got to think they’ll want more immediate help, which may mean forward.

Who knows what that brain trust will do though.

That said Grier’s decided best way to solve this problem is to trade Blackwood. Not sure what he’ll do if Askarov is somehow better. Maybe we’re going to give 4giev 5-10 games as a trial?
