I think with Rose having passed, it opens up the ability for MLB to remove his ban. They just didn't want Pete to either make dumb statements or for the press to spin negative stories and make for bad publicity. If anything, they look like the good guy for "having compassionately listened to the family" and rightly placed him among his peers in the HoF. Manfred didn't even have to acknowledge that he had met with the family and was considering their request. He could have swept it under the rug and kept it out of the press.

I also think they didn't want Pete to gloat how he got the ban overturned, he was now in the hall etc.

Well f they let Rose in they may as well let the Black Sox players in too. Bonds and Clemens should be in before Pete and Shoeless Joe.

Didn't the black sox players actually alter their play and cheat, on the field? Far cry from a guy who bet on games that were out of his control.

Yankees are dropping like flies already, Lemahieu and shockingly Giancarlo Stanton are already set to miss time, now one of the non-AARP teammates will join them on the injured list

At least Stroman gets to stay in the rotation, now. LOL.

Was curious why Mets didn't bring OMG back but Iglesias is 35 years old

yeah you might want to move on from that

So 14 years at sub 600 mil… maybe that’s 14 x $40 or $41m

That’s still a monster monster contract. As someone who’s been in the pro sign Vladdy camp I’m not sure about that.

Let’s not make sub 600 mil sound like it’s nothing.

I have been out of the baseball loop. How is it possible Cole and Stanton are already necessitating surgeries before the season starts? I swear to God baseball players are the dumbest f***ing people on the planet.

The whole sport needs a crisis intervention. Whether on out of control salaries. A return to fundamental contact hitting. Something else than high velocity pitching. And for everyone to drop a minimum of 15 lbs because their bodies are so massive that they can't handle playing a children's game.

You're not wrong. It's a 162 game marathon + playoffs each season. I'm not gonna say that everyone should try and pitch like Greg Maddux because he was a one of a kind magician but maybe pitchers should try to pitch like Greg Maddux. For hitters maybe just focus on getting on base the best way possible in any given situation.

There's such an emphasis on only showcasing your best on best talent or skill-set.

- If you get beat, make sure it's at least on your best pitch
- I don't play small ball, that's not the type of hitter I am

How many 100 mph fastballs can your arm handle in a year? Maybe if it's the number 9 hitter with no one on and you're up by 6 runs in the 3rd you can throw some junk and pitch to contact a bit more?

Baseball is a skill-set sport and we have gotten to the point where if a player has above average stuff in any category they are coached to double or triple down on that skill-set and make it elite but perhaps at the detriment of being a better all round player. So you get these best on best matchups that has seen the league transition to 3 outcome baseball.

Once that skill-set diminishes you're not useful any more and overworking it can lead to higher risk of injuries with more frequency.

It would take a huge mentality shift across the league and eventually trickle down through all levels of baseball for this to change.
