2025 MLB spring thread news & notes thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
If the Blue Jays are never going to pay their players they should just sell the f***ing team already

They’re a joke of a franchise
It's a super poorly constructed team and this is squarely on Shatkins since they came in for the 2016 season. Any good move they made during that time they basically un-did it with an equally dumb move. Can't believe we went from AA to this mess.

I also blame Shapiro for allowing this to fester for so long. I honestly think Shapiro is more the problem, here, because he's unable to properly elucidate a plan for the team and stick to it. To me, it feels like he didn't originally sign Guerrero a couple of years ago because he thought he had a realistic chance at getting Ohtani. And then having failed that, he moved to Soto. But now, Rogers probably thinks Shapiro is a flake and they aren't willing to buy into the more obvious moves. If I was the owner, I would absolutely think Shapiro to be borderline incompetent and would be looking at his contract for when it ends, so that I could start looking for someone who can actually do the job.

Yeah...I just don't understand how they were willing to pay 700M for one player but can't seem to be bothered paying that for 2 players. I can understand Guerrero's incredulity over the situation. Even if he's asking 500M for an extra year or something, you pay the man. Because you're not guaranteed to get good value in a trade, which they would most likely have to do because the Orioles, Yankees, and Red Sox are going to be all be fighting for those playoff spots with vastly better rosters than what the Blue Jays can put forward.

The thing is to, they were never realistically going to sign Soto or Ohtani. They weren't actually interested in signing with the Blue Jays. Soto wanted to be in NYC and Ohtani from before he even signed with the Angels wanted to be a Dodger.

They have a top player, homegrown from within the organization, who wants to stay there yet they won't pay him. Morons.

Hes a moron for that. Everyone in baseball knew his goal was always to be a Dodger. He would've signed there in the first place if universal DH was a thing at the time. Thats the only reason he signed with the Angels (i.e. still in LA where he wanted to be, and he could DH).

So, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr, son of longtime Major League Baseball all-star Vladimir Guerrero, needs an English interpreter to meet with the media?

Imagine not having had this for the last 20 years or however long they’ve had it in tennis.

Lost during vacation time, ESPN is going to stop airing MLB after 2025 which is fine by me as ESPN never respected the sport anyway and treats it like shit.

I loathe Manfred, but he actually had a point here about ESPN. (They didn't want to renew either though).

Sunday Night Baseball went to shit once the Jon Miller/Joe Morgan era ended. And ESPN has been mostly NFL/NBA network, hot take, TMZ, political, etc garbage for about 15 years now.

The real nail in the coffin was when they relegated Baseball Tonight to just a SNB pregame show.

I just hope the package doesn't go to something stupid like more AppleTV games or Prime or something. Maybe Turner picks up more regular season games after losing the NBA.

Great presidential quotes

"Believe you can and you're halfway there" (Theodore Roosevelt),

"Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction" (John Quincy Adams),

"You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today" (Abraham Lincoln),

"Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose" (Lyndon B. Johnson),

"Great lives never go out; they go on" (Benjamin Harrison).

"Over the next few weeks I will be signing a complete pardon of Pete Rose, who shouldn’t have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on his team winning," (Donald J. Trump)

I had the chance to meet Rose twice. Both times he was at the race book in Caeser's in Vegas. Some celebs try to be low key. Not Pete. LOL

The funny thing is said pardon isn't going to make the voters change their minds.

If anything, with how stubborn/curmudgeon that group is, this probably just means Rose went from a no to a an even harder no.

I think with Rose having passed, it opens up the ability for MLB to remove his ban. They just didn't want Pete to either make dumb statements or for the press to spin negative stories and make for bad publicity. If anything, they look like the good guy for "having compassionately listened to the family" and rightly placed him among his peers in the HoF. Manfred didn't even have to acknowledge that he had met with the family and was considering their request. He could have swept it under the rug and kept it out of the press.
