The Pirates "Big" acquisition out 6-8 weeks after wrist surgery for a chronic issue

He might be back in 6-8 weeks but I gotta think this is an injury that lingers and saps away his already middle of the road power and this year will be mainly a lost year for him

So much for competing for 4th place

Nats fans were so adamant they re-sign Rendon but I never wanted him re-signed especially when Strasburg was the more valuable one. There was no way they could pay both.

In hindsight both those deals look like disasters but you couldn't predict Strasburg would be unable to pitch for most of the remainder of that extension

Weird that an organization known for developing young pitching would go after Quantrill. Still, you need someone to eat innings, and with young arms, some leadership. In fantasy, I would buy some shares low, the Marlins might be able to get Quantrill back to his 2022-ish form with Cleveland

he belongs in a cell next to Ohtani's translator for how much he has stolen
Sad thing is that Rendon was always “business first” and if you followed him, you’d know this was a possibility.

Still, I don’t feel that anyone could have truly predicted Rendon going off this much of a cliff.

Shatkins should be fired.

Vlad has his faults but the fact that they're letting him walk nd likely losing him and Bichette.... just awful management. How these two have kept their jobs this long is mind blowing.
Shatkins have had a truly impressive management tenure for all the wrong reasons. No clue how they're still here.

They had money for Ohtani and Soto but not for Guerrero who, I'm sure wasn't asking for that kind of number. Could have had extensions for he and Bichette for Ohtani's number, which somehow no longer exists. Can't say they spent it on Santander.

They inherited a pretty robust core and farm system, proceeded to win zero playoff games. It's actually impressive how inept they've been.

I'm not counting 2016 because that was still firmly AA's core/team.

If rumors are to be believed, hes asking for $450 million and they're offering $350 million, both sides are looking at 10-11 years. It's really not that crazy of a number given his talent and age; you're getting him locked up through his entire prime and won't be beholden to an albatross contract when he declines in his mid to late 30s as most players do.

Not quite. There's speculation going around he was demanding Soto money which is absurd. Juan Soto isn't even worth what Juan Soto got.

I do agree with the bottom part though; If he was asking for the 350-450 million range most people expected, the two geeks in the front office need to be fired out of the nearest trebuchet.

It's possible but I dont think Vlad or his agent are that ignorant. Hes around the same age as Soto but doesn't have the resume nor is he as good of a player. Cohen may like to drop money like it's going out of style but even he has a point where he'll say no so I dont think there's anyone out there who would pay Vlad anywhere close to that kind of money.

Either way you'd think Rogers would tell them just to get it done. They may lose the NHL rights or at least a good chunk of games, leaving them with the Blue Jays as their main sports rights property and nobody is going to be tuning in to watch a rebuilding team.

I don't know that I would be real comfortable in giving a hefty 1B a $450M deal, it seems like the price tag on those guys has gone down a bit, but if he has another big year, someone will probably give it to him

Yeah...I just don't understand how they were willing to pay 700M for one player but can't seem to be bothered paying that for 2 players. I can understand Guerrero's incredulity over the situation. Even if he's asking 500M for an extra year or something, you pay the man. Because you're not guaranteed to get good value in a trade, which they would most likely have to do because the Orioles, Yankees, and Red Sox are going to be all be fighting for those playoff spots with vastly better rosters than what the Blue Jays can put forward.

If the Blue Jays are never going to pay their players they should just sell the f***ing team already

They’re a joke of a franchise
