Sox should move operations to New Hampshireif i had the potential to make hundred of millions of dollars i too would chose a state with low to no income tax**
**besides washington of course
Sox should move operations to New Hampshire
They are or have built new offices in back of left field wallI know it won’t happen…..but would it be legal to change their name to the NE Red Sox….move their corporate offices to NH and reap the benefits of no income tax?
Unfortunately players are taxed based on where they play (including road games). A Marlins player won't be taxed for 81 games in Miami, but will for each road state they play in.I know it won’t happen…..but would it be legal to change their name to the NE Red Sox….move their corporate offices to NH and reap the benefits of no income tax?
Sox continue to not land anyone with a "risky" contract...bold move
People would need to care for that to happen. Sadly, John Henry has bashed us into a state of apathy. It's so obvious what they're doing and I don't know at this point how 100% of the fan base isn't marching with pitchforks.
This off-season can already be declared a big failure.
Entering the winter, the glaring and obvious need was a a top of the rotation arm. It all seemed lined up for them: They had the payroll flexibility and they had enough shots on the market to land one of Snell, Burnes, Fried. Some even reported they'd be so aggressive to try to not land, but two of them.
Just 8 weeks ago ago, nobody would have given them a pass if they had known that all 3 top arms would have signed elsewhere.
Where has this aggressiveness gone? Yes, pitchers on 6-7 year deals are too risky, but they were willing to sign a upcoming DH to the longest and richest contract in ML-history.
All they did was signing two 1 year deals and trading a surplus of their valuable prospects for someone who hasn't even pitched a full season yet. The only scenario in which the Crochet trade made any sense is if he was the cherry on the top. Someone you get when your cap-strapped and need to be creative to get more quality on the team.
The news about them wanting to trade Casas for Castillo in order to get rid of Yoshidas contract is all I needed to know. They'd rather trade even more (young) assets to save some money.
IFProbably too early to declare the off-season a failure.
For starters, it's not finished. There are still significant players who haven't signed anywhere yet, many of whom could help the Red Sox.
It's funny how reasonable observers can look at the same data and come to wildly different conclusions. I was just reading an article from Keith Law this morning where he suggested that if Buehler returns to form in his 2nd season post surgery that the Red Sox could challenge Seattle for the best rotation in the American League.
I wonder who Passan could possibly be talking about?
90% of MLB
don’t the Dodgers defer money ?90% of MLB
What cap?The Dodgers' 2024 payroll is their largest in franchise history, with an estimated $320.9 million for CBT purposes. The Dodgers' actual payroll on opening day was $277.5 million. The Dodgers have been able to sign big-name players to large contracts by using deferred money, which is cash that will be paid to a player after their contract ends. The Dodgers have over $960 million in deferred salary, including:
Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, Blake Snell, and Teoscar Hernandez.
So does this Billion dollars ever count against cap ? It should, no?
I think the trick is upgrading the lineup while also upgrading the infield defense. They also have to balance not blocking Campbell and Anthony ( and possibly Mayer), who are all in Worcester and could be ready to make a jump. I would still love to get a proven closer not coming off of injury....and no I don't mean Chapman at this stage. To be honest I'm confused. If your goal was for them to add a top of the rotation arm, why are you mad how they did it? They didn't sign one of Snell, Burnes or Fried, but made a trade for someone who might be better than all of them next year. It's fine to be mad they didn't spend money, but this isn't the right situation to be mad at.
I am much more concerned they haven't spent money to upgrade the lineup.
