There’s no reason to acquire Vlad now at all. If he wants to be here (he won’t), just sign him

Get Bregman who’s already edgy have him play 2B as a Pedroia type

Go balls to wall for Sasaki

If not go get Pivetta & maybe Flaherty (HS teammate of Giolito)
Sasaki will be playing on the west coast, either the Dodgers or Padres.
Pass on Pivetta
Never been a huge Flaherty fan....would much rather have Burnes, he is a true number 1 ace.
Would love us to throw a bone to Buehler and make the deal full of incentives. If he pitches anywhere close to where he was at pre injury he would be our number 2 starter.
Bregman would be a great signing for us. Fills a big need at 3B defensively.

Do you have prove for that, any examples? When was the last time they made a high profile signings that worked out well? Story? Yoshida? Giolito? You can say in the case of the latter it was bad luck, because the guys was never injured before, but he was only the second or third option during last winter when they actually wanted Lugo, but weren't willing to do what it took to get him and lost him to Kansas City (!).
When they signed Story, they settled on the 4th - 5th best option and took what was left on the market.

I am far from liking that Fried contract. And I won't like the Burnes one either. But at least the Yankees immediately went out after striking out on Soto and got their guy. They re-shifted their focus and went on to get their guy. Now some may laughing about how overpaid Fried is and how the Yanks are going to be in trouble soon with all these expensive contracts, but in reality I am still waiting for that to happen. And in 3-4 years, nobody cares about contracts from 2024, because the revenue will have gone up even more and you have to overpay for pitchers even more. What's the point?
I would rank our top 5 UFA signings as:
Manny
JD Martinez
Damon
Bill Mueller
Koji

Worst signings
Rusney
Pablo
Crawford
Offerman
Yoshida

Its been a loooong time since we had a good signing.
Maybe that is the problem, John Henry is gun shy now?

I wouldn't put Yoshida in the same class as those other flops.

Its been a long time because they dont pony up for the elite FAs anymore. They overpay the middle of the pack guys which always ends up looking bad.

I have wondered if they've made an error with their takeaway that huge contracts are bad when maybe it should be that they're just bad at picking which players to give huge contracts to. That changing their free agency scouting/evaluation approach may be the real solution.

Obviously, many of these types of contracts are overpayments, but they seem to be more negatively affected by them than most teams.

Burnes sure I’m being realistic

I’ll take Picetta over nothing

Breslow just cancelled a scheduled media appearance, so maybe something's in the works?

And then there's this...

they've actually asked him to come out of retirement to pitch while keeping his GM salary

Theo - I remember thinking wtf

Not counting Boggs

Adrian Beltre was the best 3B I’ve seen in my life time on the Red Sox and they let him go

I still can’t believe they didn’t sign him - my kid still has a Belte blue t shirt

Belte gotta be on good list

I thought Beltre left because his teammates kept touching his head.
