2025 Hhof Predictions

Chara, Zetterberg and Price are my top picks of the class I think
Not that it's going to matter but I'd have Thronton as 3 and Price at 4 as my prediction is that Keith also gets in as well Zetterberg just doesn't have the counting stat peak/prime argument although I'd make the argument that he has a ore HHOF worthy resume in some ways than Price.

Cal my prediction wishful thinking  I forgot about Keith though.

Look at boris mikhalov or Vladimir krutov their not in krutov i'd imduct as a buikder cuz he was only in the nhl two years but waa z key part in tge 84 and 88 olympic gold wins, i want your'e personal opinion who would between the two youd induct kovalev or mogilny, and fedorov and bure werent on that 88 olympic gold team. I mean the Olympics where professionals played in. Unless you are Tretiak or someone like that, the World Championships or amateur Olympics are not something that help you get in the HHOF. Tretiak never had the luxury of playing in the NHL so it is all we have to judge him by, and even then a lot of it is based on his best on best play. It doesn't move the needle one way or another if Mogilny was on the 1988 Olympic team.

I don't think tretiak was on that 88 team. Fetisov and makarov were.

No, I mean Tretiak was on previous teams and that is among the things that he was judged on for his career. We couldn't judge Tretiak on his NHL career because he didn't have one. But we can judge him based on his Canada Cups, Summit Series, Olympics, Worlds, battles against NHL clubs, etc. Because that's all we have. Mogilny being on the 1988 Olympic team when it wasn't a best on best isn't something that really boosts his HHOF chances.

Lou lamourello said without mogilny we don't win the cup in 2000

New Jersey had to win a game 7 by a single goal (on which Mogilny got an assist) that year, the list of things you can say they do not win the cup if they do not happen or X was not there would be quite long.

They still win
He had an assist on the winning goal of a 2-1 game 7 win, I am not sure we can say they win or don't, hockey is quite a bounce to go either way type of cup win.

But that a level of we can say that about any devils players that played minutes that year, like anytime a team had to go to 7 to win the cup.

What I mean is that he was replaceable that spring. 7 points for 12th in scoring on your team in the playoffs isn't a deal breaker. It isn't as if he was a defenseman, or was physical or brought other elements to the table that were valuable. Defensively he'd be fine but everyone was fine on the Devils defensively. He had one more point than defenseman Colin White. I'm just saying. He had one point in a sweep vs. Florida. 1 point in a 6 game series vs. Toronto. 3 points in a 7 game series vs. Philly. 2 points in a 6 game Cup final vs. Dallas. They won in spite of him. And this is supposed to be a prime Mogilny.

Yeah, let's put down the Kool Aid. Mogilny's level in the 2000 playoffs is replaceable by a second-liner, no doubt. In some cases, by a third liner.

The following season (00-01), Mogilny got a point on 28% of Jersey's goals (and Jersey was the highest-scoring team in the League!). In the 2000 playoffs, he got a point on 11.5% of Jersey's goals. He was basically a playoff bust in 2000.

They still win. Lou is going to pump up his own trade isn't he? He was 12th in playoff scoring on the Devils. Not what you'd expect from a supposed HHOFer in his prime.
The year after he was tied for 4th in scoring by a devils player with Bobby holik he would've been a candidate for the conn smythe trophy had they won.

In 01 he wasn't if jersey wins that cup either brodeur or mogilny who was 4th on the devils in scoring with Bobby holik 5 goals 11 assists 16 points would've won the conn smythe trophy if jersey wins in 7.

That is part of the problem with Mogilny too. Not a huge help and very much replaceable in 2000 when they win, and when they get to Game 7 of the Cup final the following year he is invisible against Colorado. Three points in 7 games. He has to do better than that. 1 point in the 5 games vs. Pittsburgh. He had a huge 5 point game in Game 2 vs. Toronto. Honestly, that single game is about 1/3 of his playoff points. You expect more from him. He isn't a candidate for the Conn Smythe though. As it stood both Elias and Sykora had 23 and 22 points. Rafalski had 18, they may have considered giving it to a defenseman. Who knows what happens if Brodeur shuts the door down in Game 7, maybe he has a shot. It just isn't going to be Mogilny. 5th in scoring, it is better than 2000 in the playoffs, but come on, this is not an old Mogilny, he should have been the one carrying the team. There were always plenty of opportunities for Mogilny to lead a team and he didn't.

I have a hard time understanding how Mogilny would’ve been a prospective Conn Smythe winner on 16 points in 25 games. Am I correct in saying that would be the lowest point output of a skater Conn Smythe winner in the four round era?

Seems to be a hard point to defend.

I hate that Carey Price is eligible.

Don't get me wrong - you won't find many bigger Price fans than me, or many who think he's more hall of fame worthy than I do. But I still consider him an active player, with an active contract. It should be 4 years after that, after actual retirement.

Right now - to me - he's injured, not retired. Shea Weber same thing.

They really only changed the rule so they could induct Pronger, for whatever reason the committee didn't want to make him wait.

I think it's somewhat the other way around : they didn't want players who are obvious retirees due to health reasons to announce their retirement early -- thus terminating their contract -- only to make it to the HHOF.

It also helped that Pronger was a super obvious HHOF'er. Things may have been different if the first instance where the question would've been with Shea Weber (who was ... maybe an obvious HHOFer, but definitely not a super-obvious HHOFer like Pronger).

I doubt that would've happened. No sane person would voluntarily give up hundreds of thousands/millions of dollars.

I mean, Roberto Luongo did... But it's a bit apples-to-oranges.

I am not sure it was because they feared athlete would actually retire to get in the hall...

Everyone involved is making a little bit of strange dance around this, retired but not and the HHOF simply decided to play along, being very connected to the nhl, the nhlpa/owner/exec, etc....

Who want to kick the can about the subject, the powerful team are happy for cap reason to continue to pay player on the LTIR instead, poorest team has a nice way to make the floor, the players themselves obviously love it....

So everyone at every level act as if the player was retired and not an LTIR when he is not.

Technically yes, but it's not a coincidence that he was immediately hired by them to work in the front office. Likely matched the salary he gave up (around a million per year).

also, luongo later said he, his agent, and florida went to the canucks to try to work out a deal where he would ride out his contract on LTIR as a canuck to end run the recapture rule but jim benning (who never understood the cap or potentially even basic addition) wasn’t interested.
