2025 DRAFT Thread

Yup. It’s insane. Also insane how media will bitch about everything except this 😂

but where would we be without sven baertschi, erik gudbranson, riley stillman, tyler toffoli and with mikheyev, lafferty and dickinson??

(okay and also oel, garland and hronek)

Over the past four years, we’ve surrendered three first rounders to acquire four players only one of whom remains. Let that sink in. a staggering misallocation of resources. Soon, I’ll detail how Francesco’s aggressive ‘win now’ approach has compromised the franchise’s long-term sustainability and backfired spectacularly.

My dream, which is probably unlikely, is that we can sign a winger (Ehlers), and trade for a center using some combination of 2026 1st (let other teams bank on us being worse next year) as well as Mancini or another non EP or Willander D prospect, and then Hoglander or someone like that.

I want us to use this year's pick (it's probably unlikely).

I want Cole Reschny, Viktor Eklund (if he falls) or Carter Bear amongst those who realistically could slip to us.

No, I think we miss the playoffs and that pick is a generational type prospect who is worth the shot in the lottery. McKenna is Bedard’s cousin as well and if we happened to land him there is a path to Bedard.

We are talking about the 2026 1st round pick not this years.
2026 pick is what's necessary for an offer sheet since the free agency date is July 1st which is after this year's draft.

I also don't think we will be a lottery team next year.

Canucks just posted a clip with allvin saying they need to find nhlers outside of the first round. LOL goodbye first round pick
I don't doubt they are likely to trade that pick, but I took that to be more of a motivational speech for the scouts, i.e. Allvin is emphasizing the importance of the scouts' work for the team success. From what I understand, it is pretty widely accepted that GMs and their assistants, along with the heads of scouting, are largely responsible for the first round selections--they don't need a deep scouting staff to figure out the top end of the draft. The later round picks are where deep scouting staffs matter, and those picks are made more exclusively by the scouting staff. So Allvin here is just recognizing that and emphasizing how important their jobs are to the success of the team. He wasn't signaling he's going to trade the first round pick.

i think the positon vancouver needs to fill up on regardless of whose avaliable. first round pick whoever is top 10 is good. later rounds go by needs. center/right wingers. the organization lacks of. need more. the occasional goalie is good. Dmen righty lefty whatever.

I'm increasing this from a polite request to a "Keep this discussion about the actual 2025 thread". Move your discussions about other things to the appropriate threads.
like a year in review thread? I thought this was supposed to be a thread about the upcoming draft....make up your mind already.

I mean everything went wrong this year and we were still the 15th worse team... If everything goes wrong again I wouldn't expect us to drop much.

everything did not go wrong.... if Lankinen was a pumpkin, then we would be looking at Misa & Schaefer. I think with a solid D and goaltending.... the lowest this team will be is picking 10 next year. unless Aqua decides that Hughes is not resigning and we go on a firesale... . highly unlikely.

Foote will likely continue what Tocchet started, he doesnt have an extensive coaching resume... I question how out of the box insightful he will be. I really wonder why the at least one of the Sedins cannot be assistant coaches? ideally Henrik as the posterboy of a cerebral center.

I highly doubt they will keep the 15th pick. but if they do, I dont mind Reschny, if we can trade down a little Nesbitt is likely a center, reminds me of Raty in the third line C mold.

So you have one thing that went well for us... and even then his stats were worse then the year before. You do realize Laninen had a worse SV% this season than last?

Truth is we have absolutely no clue what foote as a coach is... good or bad. But we know structurally this team is solid. Both in Goal and on the back end we are strong. At this point I don't doubt we will have a tough time scoring goals.

That draft pick won't help us for what 4-5 years? Vs if we use it to help us now that could be a second line Centre. But thats not even part of the debate we were having... or I was at least.

yeah I just tacked on the last bit to stay on thread topic.

if we were relying on SIlovs once Demko was ruled out, thats a crippling wrong that would've immediately put us in lottery territory because Silovs was just THAT bad, and we had to lean on Desharnais and Juulson for long stretches because Hronek was out too. If not for Lankinen, then we were talking top 5 pick category bad in this draft.

as it stands going into 2026, this rebuilt defense and goaltending will never be lottery bad barring catastrophic injuries. so keeping the 2026 pick HOPING for McKenna (or even top 5 pick) is .......really unrealistic. All this to say, if there is a deal for an established 2C, 2026 first is not out of bounds for me.

I agree, Foote is a question mark, but my money is on Tocchet pt deux. so thats why I seqwayed into Sedin as PP coach or just someone with a tactical mind on for offense, Jason King types aint it.
