2025 DRAFT Thread

Yup. It’s insane. Also insane how media will bitch about everything except this đŸ˜‚

but where would we be without sven baertschi, erik gudbranson, riley stillman, tyler toffoli and with mikheyev, lafferty and dickinson??

(okay and also oel, garland and hronek)

Over the past four years, we’ve surrendered three first rounders to acquire four players only one of whom remains. Let that sink in. a staggering misallocation of resources. Soon, I’ll detail how Francesco’s aggressive ‘win now’ approach has compromised the franchise’s long-term sustainability and backfired spectacularly.

My dream, which is probably unlikely, is that we can sign a winger (Ehlers), and trade for a center using some combination of 2026 1st (let other teams bank on us being worse next year) as well as Mancini or another non EP or Willander D prospect, and then Hoglander or someone like that.

I want us to use this year's pick (it's probably unlikely).

I want Cole Reschny, Viktor Eklund (if he falls) or Carter Bear amongst those who realistically could slip to us.

You want the offersheet route?
No, I think we miss the playoffs and that pick is a generational type prospect who is worth the shot in the lottery. McKenna is Bedard’s cousin as well and if we happened to land him there is a path to Bedard.

We are talking about the 2026 1st round pick not this years.

2026 pick is what's necessary for an offer sheet since the free agency date is July 1st which is after this year's draft.

I also don't think we will be a lottery team next year.

Canucks just posted a clip with allvin saying they need to find nhlers outside of the first round. LOL goodbye first round pick
I don't doubt they are likely to trade that pick, but I took that to be more of a motivational speech for the scouts, i.e. Allvin is emphasizing the importance of the scouts' work for the team success. From what I understand, it is pretty widely accepted that GMs and their assistants, along with the heads of scouting, are largely responsible for the first round selections--they don't need a deep scouting staff to figure out the top end of the draft. The later round picks are where deep scouting staffs matter, and those picks are made more exclusively by the scouting staff. So Allvin here is just recognizing that and emphasizing how important their jobs are to the success of the team. He wasn't signaling he's going to trade the first round pick.

i think the positon vancouver needs to fill up on regardless of whose avaliable. first round pick whoever is top 10 is good. later rounds go by needs. center/right wingers. the organization lacks of. need more. the occasional goalie is good. Dmen righty lefty whatever.
