2025 DRAFT Thread

This draft does suck.
Past the first round it does. I think the top 20 is solid. Guys like Reschny and Kindel should be around where we're picking and they definitely have the potential to be impact scorers.

Past first round, there are some guys I think show promise but not a lot of them. Tyler Hopkins and Ethan Czata are guys I would eye with the second round pick. These are skilled players that don't have production that pops but have late bloomer/riser potential. Two guys that fit this mold that I wanted us to target last year were Tomas Mrsic and Kieron Walton who have both had fantastic years.

Tyler Hopkins in the 2nd. Damn I was honestly hoping for him in the 4th Lol. I was hoping Van would use their 3rd and get Theodor Hallquisth.

Blake Vanek Thomas's kid is in this draft as well. He'd probably be a later round grab. Big, listed 6'4".

Shea Busch another late round pick.

I thought my list last year was short. This year 33 names and probably 20 of them are going to be first rounders.

If there was ever a team that needed more capital and should trade down its Vancouver.

A couple extra 2nds while still drafting in the 1st round would be ideal even if it takes two-three trades and we finish with a pick in 25-30 as long as we gain some much needed capital.

18 and 50 turned into 20, 54, 61 last year.

21 turned into 26, 57, 198 last year.

If we could get a 2nd to drop back to 18 then do both of those trades and end up with 3 seconds it be even better for us.

Still get a player like Reschny at 26 albeit not really a center.

The first 15 games of the season a mid 2nd round pick. Now definitely a first round pick but definitely not top 16.

Yeah it seems like a lot of these players outside the top 9 are small and skilled or large but average. This is one of the weakest draft classes when analyzing the ranked top 30. I expect this draft to have a ton of wild swinging when selecting players as there is no real solid consensus.

From my limited understanding of this draft, this makes the most sense. After the top-5/10, it's a crapshoot. Might as well go for quantity and bulk up the middle of the prospect pool.

Just an impression.....but seems to me every draft that doesn't have a franchise talent at the top of the first round like a Bedard or Cellebrini, is considered 'weak'.

But 'drafting prospects' is really only the beginning. The evolution of kids like EP25, Mueller, Kudryavtsev, Mynio and even Klimovich, is living proof of that. Even draft 'afterthoughts' like Arliksson, Patterson and Romani aren't looking that bad.

Some of these kids at 18 might appear totally 'underwhelming'. But put them on the right player development path, and there's no telling where they end up.

I have no concerns at all that the Canucks won't find a lot of 'diamonds in the rough', in this upcoming draft.

Sure would be nice to have some ammo for the next Bo Horvat, Jt Miller or Elias Pettersson that becomes available yup. Especially since theres not really any decent centers available as we speak, better to sit on some dry powder for the day a good center does become available.

But no. We HAVE to build a competative team around Hughes today so we're gonna have to force it, this offseason.

Thats how we end up with a medly of Jack Roslovic, Andrew Mangiapane and Victor Olofsson this summer.

Some fans will call that a tidy bit of business especially if we secure them for less than what Brock and Pius make.

I call that disgraceful and one step closer to losing Quinn anyways and being forced to rebuild by default.

If he's not signed long before then, Quin Hughes would enter the UFA market on July 1, 2027.

Will the Canucks be serious Cup contender by then? I like to think as I'm as optimistic as they next person. But answer is probably 'no', or a 'long-shot' at best.

Canucks really have no choice but continue building slowly and steadily. And trading all your top prospects before they've even had a chance to develop for stop-gap improvements--in some vain hope of convincing Hughes to stay, is sheer folly.

If Quinn wants to go, he'll go. And all the wishing, hoping, praying and mock trades on these Boards, isn't going to make a damn bit of difference.

I would say Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Hagens, Frondell are the top group. I expect 4/5 to go top 5. Maybe there is 1 guy who falls but probably not past 7.

The next ones are the ultra light Eklund and the big McQueen, but he's missed most of this season with a back injury, so teams have to do their homework on him. Also plays for Brandon, which Nolan did as well when he suffered his hernia injury.

Then it's a pick'em for most of the rest. most of the other C are around 6 feet and 175 lbs currently. So, no one with size.
