2025 DRAFT Thread

Roger McQueen
Benjamin Kindel
Jake O’Brien
Ivan Ryabkin
Carter Bear
Brady Martin
Braeden Cootes

All centers (though Bear is more of a winger than a C). whoever is available when we pick, in that order is who I want. I personally would love Ryabkin.
Assuming that we aren't picking in the top 10 it's highly likely that both McQueen and O'Brien will be gone.

Bear most likely as well but he was injured so he might dip a bit.

I have zero interest in Ryabkin, let someone else take the risk on him.

The other 3 guys are good picks but I hope Martin is there for us.

The kid can really hit and he tilts the ice out there and has some untapped offensive potential.

The Canucks might also look at Jack Nesbitt a tall decent skating Center playing in Windsor.

Trade what.
They could trade one of their Dman prospects after they figure out which ones have the most trade value and how the team thinks that they fit in long term but I doubt they do this or that it would be a good value move.

That being said the Canucks really need potential top 6 centers and they should probably focus on those types this year and next where possible.

Can’t draft too many centers

I think if the pick is top 13-15 and they feel the draft drops off at 16 they will make the pick. Every other pick is up for grabs but I don’t think they will trade it in that position.

I actually like this draft at the top end more than last year. This depth is terrible but at the top the depth of talent is good even though it’s missing a sure fire star like the last two drafts.

As it should.
No way. I don't care if they're win now, they need to replenish their young talent at forward and the best way to do that is through the draft. You want to be competitive for Hughes but you also want to STAY competitive for Hughes.

I hope for once they don't treat their 1st rounder like a hot potato and they keep it for heavens sake. I'm so tired of being the most MID team that never has their first rounder. We are not contenders. We are not one piece away.

Just about every draft site has the first round falling off a cliff at around pick #15......and the rest of the draft isn't winning any rave reviews.

But clearly the Canucks amateur scouting staff doesn't agree. Whereas they traded almost all their high picks in the 2024 draft; they've kept all of their picks in 2025.

The only pick they traded was the extra first rounder they got from the Rangers in the Miller trade; and immediately flipped to Pittsburgh to acquire Marcus Pettersson. But they even re-acquired the third rounder they'd previously traded, by getting the Sharks third rounder via the Rangers for Carson Soucy.

So they're heading into the draft with their own first and second rounders; and one of the highest third round picks via the Sharks. You hope they feel there's depth in every round in this draft and are looking forward to drafting some kids flying below the radar.

Another EP25 would be nice!

it looks like this.

1-4 tier 1.
5-8 tier 2.
9-21 tier 3.

than its the rest.

any pick pick between 9 and like 20 is pretty much the same calibre player. At this point if we still have this pick, I'm guessing we will go with the best available centerman. I'm ok with it. I'm not overally excited. I just want us to draft Hao Xi Wang with our 2nd pick so we can have the dreaded Hughes Wang pairing.

Maybe we could pluck good old Gudbranson off waivers at some point and create a Gud Wang pairing.

You posted this on Saturday, curious to see if you still feel the same way ?

Nice to have 2 first round picks going into this draft.

At least now we can salvage the Miller trade. With the Rangers crashing hard the pick is currently 13 with a chance to get to 12 and if the pick bounces to next year it's unprotected in the McKenna draft.

Dare to dream..............oh wait

I believe they've changed the way the draft lottery balls fall.....so it's now impossible for a team with the 12th or 13th worst record, to win the lottery and vault all the way to first or second overall.

But just for once, if the Canucks do end up in the lottery, it would certainly be nice if they could actually 'move up' a bit.

It was so depressing year after year to watch Benning the draft lottery, and know in your heart that somehow the Canucks would find a way to drop three or four places in the draft.

In 2022 they changed the lottery so teams can only move up 10 spots. All 16 non-playoff teams enter the lottery, though. There are two draws, for the 1st and 2nd pick.

another reason to hate the oilers
I think a bigger reason was the Devils and Flyers.....In a couple of drafts they actually moved up to draft from the 12th or 13th position, all the way into the top one or two. Of course that didn't help the Flyers, who used that windfall to draft Nolan Patrick. Ouch!

Well the bigger reason was Oilers tanking too god damn much and they wanted to prevent other teams from doing the same thing.
