Hagens at #3. While its not a shocker to see the long time front runner bumped from #1, I think many will be surprised he's ranked #3 and neither of the players above him is Martone. I wonder if it has less to do with how Hagens is playing and more to do with how Schaefer and Misa are playing.

Huh. This is literally the first time I’ve heard of Matthew Schaefer.

I have heard Pronman, Wheels and Peters discuss him on The Athletic Prospects podcast. Pronman and Wheels both have him #3.

Hagens is apparently shooting at a ridiculously low percentage at the moment, which might have something to do with it.

Schaefer is so good. I’ve seen him compared to Heiskanen a bit. Schaef is a better skater who’s a little more willing to challenge and activate.

Tuned in recently to watch him take on Martone. Was in complete control of the ice when he was out there. Gave Martone absolutely no breathing room. Martone didn’t have an easy time when Schaef was matched up against him. Schaef has an incredible composure about him. Puck slipped by him on the boards and Martone picked it up on an odd man rush. There was absolutely no panicking from Schaef. He turned around and skated back. Got back into the play and broke it up before it evolved into a scoring threat.

This isn’t written to knock down Martone by any means but Schaef is just that much more preferable to me. He also just came back from Mono so he will be getting back up to speed rather soon and I’m sure he will pick up even more steam.

HP scouts not liking the depth of this class. They're comparing it to 2019 draft based on what they've gathered so far from watching and talking to executives, coaches and other scouts.

Maybe Waddell should rather take 2026 1st from Provorov trade than a late 1st from this year?

Well, Edmonton have been rumoured to be interested in Provorov and they don't have a 1st in 2025.

The objections that immediately come to mind is that a 2026 pick might be more difficult to flip and that Ravensbergen, the goalie, might be available with the Provorov pick.
