NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

Maybe it's just that everyone is discussing every other possibility that could be taken throughout the top 10ish, but I don't feel like I've seen Hagens' name pop up much. Is he basically a lock to be gone well before NYR's pick?
There's a cool pocket of 8 through 13 that would just make most years' top 10, so 12 is a good spot. Hagens is pretty much a lock to be gone before 8.

However it shakes out, we should have a choice of two guys that "could have gone at 9 or 10 this or any other year." It's a real tier.

Both 13 and 14 are hoping we fumble it.

The only way Hagens drops to 12 is if he has interviews worse that Shadeur Sanders'.

He's not dropping past Nashville.

Hot take time. The Islanders should be holding Mike Grier over a barrel to trade up for Schaefer. No disrespect to Sam Dickenson, but all SJ is missing is that stud defenseman and they're off to the races. I just don't know what Misa or Hagens does for them. As is, I would just take Martone at 2 if they don't pony up a nice piece to move up and get Schaefer.

The Islanders need offensive talent. Misa or Hagens would look good there. I think this could make for a pretty unpredictable draft day.

If your SJ, you also know Islanders need to grab offensive talent. The problem happens when Islanders trade down to 3, then SJ will sweat. I think right now Islanders will be asking for way too much to move down to 2.

They should ask for Dickenson and the #2.

I'd do it if I was SJ honestly. SJ gets their franchise 25 minute a night defenseman and the Islanders get Michael Misa. They essentially get Dickenson for nothing.

Maybe if we add another 1st somehow. We shouldn't be picking with our 1st this year, and if we are, Potter definitely isnt a guy I'd be targeting at 12
Wouldn’t be my target either. We don’t need another LW especially one that’s under sized. But holy shit Potter is electric! Maybe the fastest skater in the draft, edges, agility and the offensive skill is top shelf. Played NCAA as a 17yo freshman I believe. He’s probably a top 15 pick.

Potter played C for ASU this past season and I don't really see anything that is going to keep him from sticking there moving forward.

Wheels are obviously elite but his game sense is pretty good too. His tool kit is pretty average outside of the skating (elite) and shot (good) but he's got a bit of Clayton Keller in his game. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he takes a pretty big leap next year.

Jovo usually likes players for dumb reasons and I'm sure that he saw a highlight package and was like "fast, jumped into glass, swag, want" but this kid is good. Not sure that I agree with him being a massive overdraft at 12. If he were a better carrier of the puck up ice I'd be all over this kid at 12 and I'd have him ahead of some of the other big names that have been thrown around here. He isn't (this isn't something you typically pick up along the way) and there are other things that he's going to need to learn (working to get inside with his wheels, being more disruptive up ice because no one who is that fast has any excuse not to be) but those things can really be chalked up to a lack of experience/maturity.

I have a lot of respect for someone who decided to play his draft year on hard mode instead of just sticking with the program and racking up a ton of points. He had to finish high school a year early in order to even get to the point where he could play at ASU so theres a ton of work off ice that needs to go into that - You can tick off the work ethic and compete level boxes right off the bat. Intangible-y? Yes, but I'd rather a player have them than not.

File me in the group that wouldn't be mad with this selection depending on who else is on board.

If they keep the pick, and I'm thinking they should, there are gonna be some good players there. No draft is weak and 12 is a great pick. I think they'll be better next year. Obrien, mcqueen, aicheson(sp), potter, Smith, Martin, hensler, etc. Great prospects. Im not sure it's good to kick a 12 in the face cause a 1 might be a maybe super distant rare enigma wrapped in a secret black hole possibility. I'll tell ya though, glad I don't have to make the choice. Haha

I said LW because that’s where I suspect he’ll play at the next lvl. He played on the wing for the USNTDP. Moved back to playing C for ASU. If he had stayed his last year at the USNTDP he probably would have moved back to C there as well. So maybe he is a true C moving forward. If he’s a C at the next lvl and that’s where the Rangers project him to play, then I have np taking him at 12. I actually think it would be a great pick, he has legit game breaking skill. We love those USNTDP kids.
