Realistically the Rangers see themselves in buckets 3 or 4 above.

they’re not moving the pick…at least to pitt. Drury is on coach #3 and has expectations to assemble a winner. Realistically, this team with minimal change should be a playoff team. I’d imagine, for better or worse, there will be at least one significant to huge deal completed this summer. The cap situation that creates will dictate how much more change there is in terms of volume of roster turnover beyond that.

I think there’s a low probability of them actually making the pick, but virtually none that they hand it to pitt. Unless they get a deal in place for someone with a team who would prefer rolling the dice on next years pick in the return, it’s not going to pitt….and i don’t think that’s likely to happen.

But you didn't address the general notion that next year's draft is considered much deeper.

This is a 10 player draft. It has been said that after #10, many of these players are interchangeable through deep into the second round.

A pick at #20 next year may be more valuable than this year's #12.

Drury should trade this years pick, but he won't. He'll trade next years pick.

But they also have high-end talent in Panarin/Fox/Igor on the roster, and will unlikely get a top pick next year without some lotto luck.

If I was Drury Id contact Pitt to see if any kind of deal can be made. Id look at the options.

1. Ask Pitt do they prefer 2025 or 2026?

2. Ask Pitt do they desire any of our players.

3. Ask Pitt what they would be willing to give up to make the 2025 or 2026 decision.

While we are not in a great spot the option to choose which year can be an asset so we should approach the option as something with value.

If next year's draft is not special outside of McKenna, I guess keep this years pick. We'll know what Drury thinks of his job security if they actually make the pick of course. Certainly wouldnt hurt to add some talent at center or on defense to the pipeline. If they keep next years pick instead they could offer sheet someone but that seems unlikely. The Rangers will very likely be drafting in the 20s next year, despite the naysayers.

Except the Devils, I'd rather see the 1st OA pick go to any other team than the Isles.
At least the time they did win, is a shit time. Nobody close to generational talent. Nobody can even say who is #1. Our pick may end up being better than them, especially if they pick Hagens.

Let them bang their chests, they have such an embarrassing franchise the hockey gods just felt bad.

Didn't you hear, next year's draft is amazing compared to this year. It always is. "This year is actually really weak, and next year is actually super deep, we'll be able to find impact players into the 2nd round!" every single year.

Also it's ironic that NYR have the 12th pick and everyone is parroting some nonsense that there's a "massive drop-off in talent" after 11. Sure thing, Jan. I can't wait until next year where there will suddenly be a "massive drop-off in talent" after the NYR n-1 pick.

Reading a few mock drafts. Give me Jackson Smith. 6'3 D with puck skills to run a PP? Yes please. Why he would fall out of the top 10, I have no idea but he's the guy I want.

Ive been posting here for about 10 years on and off, and without fail next year's draft is always generational.
