GDT: 2025 Draft Lottery: We Got Hosed, Billy

13. Detroit Red Wings: Victor Eklund, RW, Djurgården (SWEDEN-2)

In a perfect world, I think the Red Wings would add a forward with a bit more size here, but Eklund’s talent is just too much to pass up, with his speed and shot bringing potentially difference-making elements to a system that needs more pop. Physical LHD Kashawn Aitcheson was a strong consideration here as well, but ultimately, Eklund’s motor and offensive ability make him the pick. — Max Bultman
Would he even make it that far?

Is Eklund really expected to drop to 13? Not complaining at all, I guess the rest of the league is overplaying the physicality card and there's a chance he drops? I'm fine with that.

Isn't it Corey Pronman who basically does these things based on size above all else? I wouldn't put any stock in this.

This was a beat writer mock. But in his “audit” Pronman says scouts are saying similarly - small wingers tend to fall. I’ve been saying it for weeks…

Doesn't make sense. EDM, and BUF are not big markets.

I remember making that argument to someone telling me the draft was rigged on the main board once and they told me I was wrong because Buffalo is in the state of New York

that was the last time I bothered seriously engaging with anyone saying the draft was rigged

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but in a reality that is different enough to where the Wings lose two more games, it is almost certain that the ping pong balls fall differently than they did tonight. Its not like if the Wings lost two more games the ping pong balls would have been drawn the exact same, that isn't how things work.

In and of itself, I'm not really even that annoyed at dropping a spot. The annoying part is that it happens every damn time.
a reality where the wings simply lose two more games would have had absolutely no effect on the draft lottery results that occurred last night.

That team was assembled by Yzerman with full intention to tank, Holland was gone way before draft.
