Prospect Info: 2025 DRAFT Discussion

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

All of these protected contracts give the option to the team who is giving up the pick because the protection clause was designed by them for their benefit..it doesn’t make any sense why NYR would tie their own hands but not giving them the option to give up the protected pick if they so choose
I tend to agree — What contract would not have this option lol

I wonder what type of paperwork is associated with these trades.

Rangers finish top 13 the pick moves to 2026. Out of the top 13, Pens get the pick. Pick is protected for top 13. Dubas made a good deal with this trade. Pickering up next year helps the LD. Stuck with Graves but cap going up his hit is not a financial bomb. third pairing LD is not what he was signed for. But that is what he looks to be. Pens get a RW at 14 or say Martin who can play center is fine with me.

That Jesse write-up is the same impression I got from reading other scouting reports on Eklund, my only concern is whether his pretty small frame (5'11" and 162 lbs) can let him effectively play that style in the NHL. Kunitz wasn't all that big either, he was only 6'0" and 188 lbs, but Eklund needs to add another 25 lbs to just get to that size.

I think he has similar upside to Guentzel, I would be really happy to get him with their 1st. He seems like the exact kind of winger that would mesh phenomenally well with Crosby, but I doubt he'll even be in the NHL before Crosby retires.

He seems pretty similar to his brother in San Jose. Good skater, good skillset, kind of rambunctious, not overly big or strong.

I think Crosby will be around awhile yet if he stays healthy and we become competitive again. Big ifs, but doable.

Jagr-esque longevity wouldn't surprise me. That could mean like...8 more years of Sid, which would be incredible.

If you look at the all time points list, Sid isn't that far behind Jagr for 2nd all time. I think he's too humble to ever say that's a goal of his, but I wouldn't be shocked if that's one of the things on his mind for legacy reasons.

I highly doubt Sid is around for even 4 more years. Let alone 8.
I dunno. He's been a hockey machine for about as long as he's been alive.

When he retires he'll either be a fulltime war buff and/or transition into the front office, but I'm not sure a guy who relishes being in the trenches like Sid will be looking to do that before his body definitively tells him he can't contribute at this level any more.

In an era where superstars who take immaculate care of their bodies like Brady and Lebron can still be impact players into their 40s, why not Crosby if health allows and the Pens are competitive?

Good, nice to see management all over and take this seriously. Very important in the rebuild here
Management is doing their due diligence to be sure, as they should! However the on ice saga is really compromising our future potential here. We need to start losing like yesterday! We can still accrue good pieces, but we need cornerstones if we are to ascend anytime soon.

I still think Sid probably hangs 'em up after he gets his final shot at Olympic gold. Doesn't seem like the kinda guy to hang around for too long after he starts to noticeably decline. Especially if/when this team's gonna be utter dogshit by then.

Jagr also seemed like he has absolutely nothing else worthwhile going on in his life, and with tax drama and gambling I imagine he’s thrown away a lot of his wealth. Sid has his shit sorted, he can retire and still be happy. One bad-for-Sid season and he’ll retire into coachdom or the front office imo.

I hope for his legacies sake he never becomes a coach

I don't see him going into coaching per se. But he seems so at home and in his element whenever you see video of him with a rink full of knee high players. The whole environment just seems to come so natural to him. I can see him opening his own hockey "school" or something similar for mites or mini-mites. Maybe a few other groups.

Maybe because he’s such a grinder he could buck the trend of superstar coaches but you’re right that he would make a great skills coach.

I mean, if we pick 7th and the top 5 are gone, Eklund is a fine consolation prize. Our future top 6 LW depth would be nice and set with McGroarty and Eklund and then Howe as a 3LW. I don't have a problem with that outside of the pure fact that we desperately need centers.

My struggle will be if, at 7, you have Desnoyers, McQueen, and Eklund all available. I feel like overall, Eklund may be a slightly better LW than the other two are centers but the need is soooooo great at center.

If you take Desy or McQ, you can look to take a wing with the Rangers pick - Bear (ideal), Spence, Carbonneau, or hell even Brady Martin since he plays for Soo, lol.

Still, if you don't get into the top 5, the draft is kind of a bust from a "pieces to rebuild with". If you don't get a top 5 pick, the one or two we add are merely pieces to add to the core pieces you hope to get in the future.
